astro75 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hi,guys. Just hook up 2 speakers at the Surroung Back. After playing number of disc, notice something. Hope that what I find out ,is right.. AVR:Onkyo 805 Blu-ray player-Samsung BD-1400 As we know at the front LCD of the Onkyo 805 will indicate a SQUARE if the speaker is active. So if there total of 8(inclue S/W)there will be 8 square. When playing the disc,it will display---FL,C,FR,SL,SR,LPE. inside the Square box. So it indicate is 5.1 audio. So it mean the disc is encode of 5.1 audio signal to the AVR then to the speaker. Whereas the 2 surround back is useless. Unless there a disc is encode with 7.1 audio? Or by select at the Onkyo 805 surround mode to push to 7.1 surround, which I try. There is sound coming out,but the Display still never indicate the SBL,SBR inside the Square Box..Believe because it done by the AVR,and not purly direct audio signal sent by the player.. And I right to say that??? ??? ??? Hope someone can clear my doubt.. Thanks

Yes So it mean the disc is encode of 5.1 audio signal to the AVR then to the speaker. Whereas the 2 surround back is useless. There are different Processing Modes supported by the Onkyo. For instance, THX Neural, THX Ultra 2 or THX Cinema + DPL IIx, DPL IIx, DTS Neo etc This will process the 5.1 to 7.1 Unless there a disc is encode with 7.1 audio? Some games support 7.1 Descent has 7.1 MPCM Crank has 7.1 MPCM I think got at least 1 or 2 with DTS HD MA 7.1 Or by select at the Onkyo 805 surround mode to push to 7.1 surround, which I try. Yeap, see above for THX/processing modes. There is sound coming out,but the Display still never indicate the SBL,SBR inside the Square Box..Believe because it done by the AVR,and not purly direct audio signal sent by the player.. And I right to say that??? ??? ??? Yes, the speaker boxes shows what the original signal source contains, not what speakers are driven. With a stereo, DPL II source, only 2 speakers are lit, but you can have all 7.1 channels active.
