Quest88 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Hi all, I've decided to start learning piano as I've always had an interest and now have the time to pursue. Know zero about music, so have to start from scratch. Know any schools or courses to recommend? Near town or north area, with classes on weekday evenings are the best. I'm currently quite keen on Yamaha's basic courses as it looks simple and not too heavy: http://www.yamaha.com.sg/842.html
silencer13 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 I tried Yamaha before for guitar. Not too bad, good for beginners like me who didn't know anything about music. Learning piano? Most of your class will be kids one fifth your age but will play better than you... good luck! ;D ;D ;D
Quest88 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 The course is for adults. :P Anyway will have a friend coming along also so won't feel too awkward. I've also found this place for pop/jazz piano, also for adults: http://www.play-by-ear.net/index.html
Guest jonlee Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Not exactly similiar, but I'm looking to enrol my 6 yr old for piano lessons. We are not those parents aiming for her to score in piano exam, but becasue we paid extra for her to participate in music lessons in her pre school and she seems to enjoy it. Now that she has settled down after 3 months in Pri 1, we are looking for her to continue her interest. Other than yamaha, any other to consider?

Quest88 Posted March 17, 2008 Author Posted March 17, 2008 Think I need a digital keyboard that I can turn down the volume if that's so. :P
MC_Hammer Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Think I need a digital keyboard that I can turn down the volume if that's so. :P Practise...decent hours is FINE...I am sure you will be a Considerate neighbour...Looking forward to the day u will hold a LIVE concert in your House ...soon ! 8) But set drums at any hour in the day is IRRITATING ! :(
silencer13 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Nowadays the keyboards are very solid, they even make the keys feel like piano keys. The best thing is that you can just plug in your headphones to the keyboard and not disturb anyone. Best of all worlds!

silencer13 Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Electric guitar of course have lah... just turn down the guitar amp. :) Even acoustic guitar now they have something called a silent guitar. Basically it's a guitar without the casework, so it doesn't make any noise.
SiriuslyCold Posted March 18, 2008 Posted March 18, 2008 now I'm intrigued about learning an electric guitar...
