desray Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 I may have miss something regarding this firmware upgrading issues that have been widely discussed among owners of TX SR-875 AVR here...I believed many of you have upgraded the firmware? May I ask what are some of the major bug fixes or new features (if any) on this so-called new firmware upgrade? I'm using TX-SR 805 by the way...if I wish to get the latest firmware update - how do I go about making an appointment with Onkyo (Singapore)? AVBuzz.com is where I derive my source: http://www.avbuzz.com/audio-video/200803/onkyo/0.htm Any advise?
HT102 Posted March 15, 2008 Posted March 15, 2008 My 905 comes with v1.05 firmware and I am looking forward to update to v1.08. I will check if local Onkyo distributer Hwee Seng will cater to the upgrade as well. A post in AVBuzz indicated positive results after the upgrade from v1.05 to v1.08: 1. I feel it's a little bit more detail than before 2. the surround effect is better 3. the overall sound stage is a little bit better Ref: http://avbuzz.com/bbs/av/av-thread-93465.html
desray Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 Thanks HT102, that will be nice. let us know how it goes... :) I already sent an email to them, await for their reply. ;)
desray Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 If only all AVR of the future will make it a standard to include a LAN port for connection to Internet to receive firmware upgrades...really hate the idea of lugging a heavy AVR from place to place...sighz...
desray Posted March 16, 2008 Author Posted March 16, 2008 I have very bad encounter with DENON Singapore...as they dun really have good after-sale support - its not DENON product is not good..its local support is either very indifference towards customer request or choose to be ignorant in any news or firmware updates from its parent company. The only way to get local DENON support center to work is to send a complain email to the head management in Japan...Sighz. I just hoped that local support from Onkyo (Hwee Seng) will not be like his competitor...this is my first Onko product.

Their after customer service has been excellent so you dont have to worry about that. You can feedback to them if you face any issues including customer care service. Hope this helps.

Guest splee8868 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 i own onkyo tx-sr875 & my firmware is v1.04...today i consult hwee seng singapore...they had v1.07 long time ady...my question is why they never do like onkyo hongkong, china having a notice on they website to inform end-user go to do the upgrading? why must when we do the enquiry only they telling us? poor service!
HT102 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 I must say my encounter with Onkyo SG (Hwee Seng) is the best I ever had with any AV servicing provider. One phone call to explain my issues and a few days later my 905 gets picked by a very friendly and courteous technician. No chance for any back-breaking experience. ;D Yep, they acknowledged the existence of v1.08 firmware for the 905. ;)
cn9601 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Hi. Juz called Hwee Seng and been advised that v1.07 for 875 is related to 'bugs fixes'. But they couldnt tell me more abt these bugs fixes. Simply say, if theres no problem, it is NOT necessary for v1.07 upgrade, which does not include any add-on (unlike v1.04 that includes additional Reon settings). Juz wonder any bro of 875 still goes ahead to lug tat 875 to Hwee Seng for v1.07. If so, any enhancement/improvement? ;)

Darthfunk Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 Guys the main FW is 1.04 so dont bother about 1.07. Just keep a look out in AVS forum about the latest FW that is useful.

HT102 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 For those not experiencing issues with your 905, there is no need to rush to upgrade the firmware as according to folks in AVSForum there will be version 1.10 soon... Ref: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=13490219#post13490219
HT102 Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Guys, I will be receiving my 905 by coming Tuesday. Found out that besides the upgrade of main firmware, firmware on some of the DSPs will also be updated. Hope I can "feel" some sonic improvement after the upgrade. Will report back.

mercuryaw Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Will they do pick up for 875 as well? Yes they do. I just arranged mine to be pickup by next coz my 875 firmware is at 1.03. There will be transportation fee of $30 excl GST.
Doggie Howser Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Do 905 owners have to pay as well? :( It's still under warranty leh!
cn9601 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Bro have u read the waranty card :o Practically in all waranty cards, it stipulates owner has to bear transportation cost, if applicable lei ;) Anyway, when I called Hwee Seng, I had been informed that the firmware upgrade would be free within the waranty period. They could arrange the pickup at a cost :P There will be transportation fee of $30 excl GST. Do 905 owners have to pay as well? :( It's still under warranty leh!
HT102 Posted April 3, 2008 Posted April 3, 2008 Do 905 owners have to pay as well? :( It's still under warranty leh! Not for me. For my case, I have issues that need to be fixed, perhaps that justifies the free transportation.
