redryder Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Because of safety reasons (ie children running around), wife does not allow speaker stands in the living room. Unfortunately this means that the speakers are placed on a cheap Ikea TV cabinet, and they sound terrible. No soundstage to speak of, and music sounds very muddy. I can also clearly feel the vibrations when I touch the cabinet. I tried attaching blu-tack to the bottom of the speakers, but that doesn't really help. Any bros here got other ideas?

redryder Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Nope. They are about 1 foot from the wall behind them. There is also nothing at the sides as they are placed on the top level of the cabinet, where the TV used to be. After wall mounting the TV, there is space for the speakers. Anyway tried using cork yesterday and it worked somewhat. Opened up the soundstage and improved clarity.
Quest88 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 didn't we have a topic like this just awhile ago? how about trying spikes and dampening pads?
petetherock Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 Change the cabinet Wall mount the speakers Not too many cheap and simple solutions, but you may find some in the 'tweak's thread. You can try loading your cabinet with heavy books or even bricks, but I don't think it will take the weight.
