yunn26 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Hi. Since 42inch Plasma price now so low, I have been mulling over the limited choices in the market mainly Hitachi, Samsung & Pioneer - However, I have been thinking for weeks still cannot decide b/c Hitachi's latest 42 inch Plasma design is not as nice as last year one - ( now copy Sony Bravia design, and not as nice), Pioneer is expensive ( 1 year warranty only!) and Samsung, well..cant stand that little silver bezel in the bottom of the chasis. :P Then I just saw LG's 50 inch PC5R model at only 3k!!!! - I mean this was reviewed on CNET USA and it got good marks, with blacks that were deeper then the best 50inch Pioneer plasma! ( but has poor greens) and in Singapore, comes with 3 year warranty!! How to not consider!? :o Anyone own one? I hear some bad stories about LG plasma but since there only so few owners..it cant be all accurate right? Anyone have any comments? Or know of where there is even better price? Thanks!! :)
blackburn Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 in my opinion, a display area of 50" is so small that the current crop of lcd/plasma tvs perform insignificantly different from one another, bar the pioneer's kuro series. only with the keenest eyes would one be able to spot the slight difference between any two 1080p displays. for your information, the chimei 42" full hd could be had for as little as s$2500 plus gifts a few years ago. now lets see how oled displays perform
imbest Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 LG color is good, but based on industrial feedback, especially from the Changi airport, they faded off 1 year later, you will start expecting yellowish output.... they turn it on almost 24/7 so based on domestic use, it could be just slightly over 3 years for your case. It's single panel, just like Pioneer, so the reflection is relative much lower compared to Panasonic :D However, if you're very particular about overscan, LG has little issue in getting the perfect ratio in their overscans. I had a hard time deciding this, Samsung Q9 and the Pansonic PV70 until I decided to bite the bullet and cheong full HD Plasma (with just a few hundreds more) $3K is a lousy price, if you use P9's $3700 50" full HD plasma as benchmark.
game_goondu Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 but the price of $3.7k for full hd plasma is not applicable now. i think cheapest full hd plasma are all more than $4k now.
imbest Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 should be applicable lar (unless they really take away all the freebies), try giving maximum credit a call lor, look for the auntie. You can try LG also, maybe able to get better price than IT show too. anyway, Panasonic 50PV70 was around $3.5K with quite a lot of freegifts. That's why $3K for PC5R alone is not really a good price. The new low should hit < $2.7K for 50" Plasma.
yunn26 Posted March 5, 2008 Author Posted March 5, 2008 I agree..I heard the LG PC5R can be had for 2.8K w/o free gifts. It will be intersting to see how LOW it can go beyond that tomorrow at the IT SHOW. Anyone can better that price right now? Appreciate your input... Actually, I think the Samsung P9 is one of the best looking 50 plasma screens around and at 3.7K. But it seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth!..and I just checked the Samsung Q9 is definitely below 3K too! Anuone know the best deal on the Q9 now?
imbest Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 freebies trade-ins only available in certain neighbourhood/chinatown shops. big brands boys like HN, BD or Courts dun usually do it that way. U know what? P9 aka 5084 in the states is one of the hottest Plasma, but well, there aren't many brands around. I think local market is just too small, so Samsung decided to focus more on the LCDs. Q9's color is actually very very good, if I didn't get a full HD at the first place, I would grab Q9 for sure!
yunn26 Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 LG guy at the IT SHOW said that they are discontinuing the PC5R - there were no 50 inch Plasma models at the show for LG
