Nasty Bass to blow up your sub - BR or HD disc recommendations....

Recommended Posts

With the advent of the lossless formats, plus the new hi def discs, I thought I may be worthwhile to put a list of movies together that are hi def to try and send the subwoofers into free orbit...

** I am not responsible if you bust your subs :) **

Please contribute movies that shook your innards, but also try to include the Time Stamps, or at least the scene that had the booms :)

Go for the real thing, Telarc, The Big Picture (Erich Kunzel by Cincinatti Pops Orchestra).

One track (Track 6) got recording of a real STS63 Discovery launch at Kennedy Space Centre, recording courtesy of Lockheed. And some F16 recordings...blah. I think its about 5 Hz or so. Don't be surprised that you can do that low down on CD (do a NCHtone test tone with infrasonics, burn to CD, and then observe your SVS sub still vibrates).

I think its available in SACD somemore nowadays, at New Disc Village. When I first heard it on CD through headphones in 1997 or so, power sia. Since we are talking about bass, CD can already, no need what blueray or HD DVD dah.... (in fact SACD is real good for low freqs, but its academic actually for DSD when we actually need the real stuff for the highs).

Shoot them up BR - the sound of Giovanni's car creates a real thump

Bourne Ultimatum HD - when he confronts the dr, the low frequency bass creates real tension

Pan’s Labyrinth  HD - when the little girl steals the grapes from the table and has to draw a door to escape - filled with low bass, suspense and tension

New Favourite -- Hitman -- not deep but every gun shots and punch/kick got got punch combination of deep(not very deep though)  ;D

Actually I more prefer to demo those cute cute mid feel like Running scared-guns sliding on floor, Greatest game ever played-golf ball passing thru you , Finding nemo-1to2 minutes before the Darla tapping and etc .  ;D

Bro I just tried this BR courtesy of Koma...

The bass is indeed awesome

Now I know why you like horror, the ambient scenes are really awesome and the bass from the sound track and the suspense generated is indeed capable of beating action movies...

Good recommendation.

The bass just before the final confrontation is quite astounding.

Actually another movie was dawn of the dead - Tru HD on HD DVD...

For those who r interested , BD 30days of night has some nice bass and 12.3 driver at my reference level fail the test again(courtesy from my friend)  :(

For horror movie ambient sound , my vote still goes to Boogeyman although the movie itself so so . The ambient is similar to master and commander type . This movie has tons of nasty bass too but my all times favourite for horror movie bass still goes to The grudge . Boogeyman still not out in BR format whereas The grudge is out(other country) but not the unrated version .
