No Image and no 5.1 sound from AVR

Hi all,

 

Am helping a friend set up his HTPC to connect to his AVR and encounter this problem.

 

HTPC Spec:

- Asus M2NPV-VM + AM2 4000+

- 2gb ram

- sapphire 2400pro with hdmi out

- creative pci x-fi sound card

- Windows XP MCE 2005

 

AVR - Onkyo 875

 

What happened was the boot up screen showed up but upon transiting to display Windows, the signal got "lost" and a black screen appears...

 

Even though the windows screen didn't show, the boot up sound came through the AVR.

 

Tried both HDMI to HDMI and DVI to HDMI and both end up the same... :(

 

Previously, I was able to get the set up to work using a similar set up but different mobo, Gigabyte GV-K8N51PVMT-9 with xpertvision 2600pro with hdmi out, also running Windows XP MCE 2005.

 

For this case, the HDMI to HDMI also couldn't work but the DVI to HDMI worked.

 

If anyone of the experts here have any clue what is the issue, please share your experiences.

Sounds like the resolution in your OS environment cannot be accepted by the output. BTW speaking of output...what is the monitor source? To a Projector or to a LCD/Plasma TV?

ok... my friend managed to play around with the ati software to "force" the image out... now got display liao :)

 

quick update - dvi to hdmi is working. hdmi to hdmi still not working... :(

 

now got a new problem...

 

the sound comes out as stereo only...

 

creative xi-fi optical out to av receiver.

 

select speaker setting as 5.1 but the sound came out as stereo... center and both rear channels are missing...

 

does he need to setup his av receiver in order to output 5.1 surround?

Select SPDIF Out and not set the Analog 5.1

desray is right. set to spdif out and bypass the soundcard encoding and let the avr do the job.

 

its working now.
