samsiu Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Read this link at Business Week online. If it really happens, bye bye HD-DVD... http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/07_51/b4063028294846.htm?chan=top+news_top+news+index_businessweek+exclusives
asianboy Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 well this competition wont finish so fast. It will go on for years.
HT102 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 As an Asian, I think Toshiba deserves to lose due the way they treat the Asian market. I am not expecting fantastic freebies to go along with the HD-DVD players' sale but simply for the lack of local availability of these players that have even found their way to the Australia many months ago. Even if I owned both players, I have always given priority to Blu-Ray format version of the movie whenever I purchase on-line. Furthermore, based on my personal experience, Blu-Ray discs have a protection coating that make them more resistant to scratches than HD-DVDs.
oomph Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 just came back from hong kong and most local shops don't carry HD discs ... wide sky at mongkok only carries blu-ray. NO hd dvd ??? for the sake of better video and fuss-free players (blu ray still has many hiccups), going HD DVD is my preference. Also cheaper and region free nails it. put it another way - sony is more interested in nailing its revenue streams and future profits than current customer satisfaction. I predict that if things turn, we'll see an onslaught of hd dvd equipped xboxes, multimedia pcs and notebooks as a final resort. if things do get desperate, there's still msoft backing hd dvds.
Doggie Howser Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Actually, the PS3 is most stable HD player I have ;)
Phil1624705739 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Actually, the PS3 is most stable HD player I have ;) Second that. Guys, do be a bit more patient and a sweet HD-DVD player may be on the way here at a good price too. :-X That's all I'm going to say. Phil

Most MNC companies treat Japan operations as an entity of its own so even though Japan may have failed in WWII, it has inadvertently gained its empire in other means. ;D
samsiu Posted December 8, 2007 Author Posted December 8, 2007 I was told that the HD-E10 would be released and sold last week for the price of S$799.00. Unless that person just wanted to get rid of me, asking too many questions. That person is from Toshiba Singapore. I waited, and waited. Almost wanted to get from Amazon. Even offered Audio for his HD-A30. But the subject of this thread is Warner may be going Blu-ray exclusive. I hope this comes true. So i do not have to worry about dual format. Second that. Guys, do be a bit more patient and a sweet HD-DVD player may be on the way here at a good price too. :-X That's all I'm going to say. Phil

I'm sure you're referring to the HD-EP10. Anyway, EP30 is also on the way. But there's another one coming too. 2G or 3G, up to you to guess. Phil
Phil1624705739 Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I WANT MY TRANSFORMERS!! That's about the only reason why I want a HD-DVD player. Phil
redders Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 yeah...its pissful to know the Transformers will be avail in HD-DVD only and never in blu-ray which could stretch the quality of the film further :'(
redders Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 To me, the format war is over already, to a no-brainer Blu-ray wins basically of its encryption technology which could store data up to 50 GB for dual layer and its scratch protected...wat else to ask for a simply CD?:P Regardless of how much HD-DVD can offers, it can definitely be duplicated on a blu-ray.
KKS Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I WANT MY TRANSFORMERS!! That's about the only reason why I want a HD-DVD player. Phil Same here. Currently still using Xbox360 and PS3 for HD-DVD and Bluray playback. Actual not too bad. Only got 1 HD-DVD movie so far.
Doggie Howser Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 yeah...its pissful to know the Transformers will be avail in HD-DVD only and never in blu-ray which could stretch the quality of the film further :'( Yes, we know... the BluRay and the PS3 is the last word in HiDef. In your dictionary.
redders Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 Yes, we know... the BluRay and the PS3 is the last word in HiDef. In your dictionary. While many still try to prove otherwise, the above still stands as of now:)
Guest jonlee Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 I just watched my TRANSFORMERS 2 days ago...Original order from amazon was lost, amazon just UPS a replacement copy. My new speakers arrived just in time in the morning...watched transformers in the afternoon...SIOK!!! ;D I WANT MY TRANSFORMERS!! That's about the only reason why I want a HD-DVD player. Phil
tsammyc Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 While many still try to prove otherwise, the above still stands as of now:) How can the PS3 be the last word when it can't output DTS-HD MA?

Pls tell me it comes by end of the year. :D
redders Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 How can the PS3 be the last word when it can't output DTS-HD MA? I have never say its the last word, someone put that in my mouth. I'm just saying at this point of time, its the best. Not having DTS-HD MA is not doomsday, a firmware update from PS3 is down the pipeline which inclusive of profile 1.1 and sequently profile 2.0. The problem list seems to be piling up in another thread for certain model. At least currently PS3 is the most stable and never fail to deliver player compared to the other models. I'm not gonna speculate about other upcoming models till they are available, tested and proven.
tsammyc Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 So, I suppose you agree that the PS3 isn't the "last word" ;D
redders Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 So, I suppose you agree that the PS3 isn't the "last word" ;D If you read what I wrote carefully, I said "as of now"..never did I imply is the "last word":)
Doggie Howser Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 FWIW, the amount of hardware in both the XBox 360 and the PS3 is amazing.nee Both the XBox360 HD DVD and the PS3 BR load up much faster than standalone machines and seem to be less prone to compatibility issues. Both provided a quick and cheap way to get into HD game. But these days with newer players with more features, both are looking a little long in the tooth. PS3 really needs the Profile 1.1 and DTS MA capability really soon now. If all else fails :) there's always the Panny BD30 round the corner :P
fabryuk Posted December 8, 2007 Posted December 8, 2007 It seems like the Panny is the one BR dvd to get now 1. Profile 1.1 2. Able to pass the HD sound via bitstream (must have a HDMI 1.3a receiver) 3. Fast loading time Only disadvantage is for SD dvd to output 480i- must use the component (if u want to use the reciever or VP to process the pq)- well just buy extra component player
