Small stereo system?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Have a friend who has a very tiny bedroom with those typical LCD TV and short cabinet below.

Am looking for an all-in-one or simple stereo system. Any recommendations, of what to get or where to buy?

Main issue is that the speakers will likely have to be satellites as they would be placed almost against the wall. Not too familar with these.

So far the only speakers that came to my mind are the Anthony Gallos orbs.. paired with a subwoofer.

Acoustic Energy Aego sounds very good esp for the price. It dropped to S$199 at one point which was F***king unbelivable. Now its S$369 for the latest Aego M i believe. The sound is pretty good.

I think City Electronics SLS ground flr still selling.

Try Morels, or even explore of of the JVS sake speaker minis, the sound is rather good and has a built in DVD player.

try john blue jb3 good for small room

I second the AE Aego which I have set up with my Mac Mini.  Great sounding and nice looking too........ :)

If you like no frills, the JVC EX-A1 (Stereo with DVD functionality) with Wood-Cone speakers is good for small room/bedroom, it has been serving me extremely well in my bedroom for the past 3 years.  ;D No regrets

Even though the speakers are rear-ported, it can be place close to the wall.

Denon's mini systems are good too

Can consider the following mini systems:

Onkyo

http://www.intl.onkyo.com/products/system_components/mini_systems/index.html

Yamaha

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av/products/hifisystem.html

Budget-wise, S$500 and up (I think).

Just to side track. I see that Onkyo, Yamaha and Denon have such micro/mini systems with DAB radio. But it does seems like its not very common in singapore though we do have DAB radio stations. The ones commonly available in the malls are the ones like Tivoli, Sangean, Pure and Tangent?. But I have yet to see one with built in CDP.

Hi, the anthony gallo adiva ti wl serve yr friend very well. With its titanium drivers of 120w each, it produces some bass which many other spkrs could not. They are full range spkrs n can place as you like no distance limitations, many customers are amazed with the sound. The adiva ti was awarded the best mid priced spkrs in usa. Come and audition and decide for yourself.  we are open from mon to sat 1-7pm. Have a blessed christmas.  - the artcoustic gallery

anyone using Philips mini combo with ribbon tweeter

ribbon in budget mini combo seem too good to be true.

How good is it?

Ribbon tweeter also got cheap ones what. $50 also got. $1k each also got. Note, price doesn't necessarily dictate overall performance.

Just to revive this as going to buy soon. :)

I saw the Philips mini combo which venturer is probably talking about and am very taken by it, compared to the others.

I saw it was $489 for the ribbon tweeter version and $449 for normal tweeter version.

Normal version: http://www.consumer.philips.com/consumer/en/sg/consumer/cc/_mRank_3/_productid_MCD706_98_SG_CONSUMER/DVD-Micro-Theater+MCD706-98

Class D amplification, and its separates (i.e. power amp separate from dvdp)

Interesting combination and looks nice too! Also has subwoofer out if u plan to add.

The items on the cheap may be the speakers (but it still sounds good for the price to me), clip speaker terminals and thin speaker cables, and normal RCA inputs. The dvdp to power amp is on a proprietary cable so do not think it suffers much from it. For this price can't expect much I feel.

Though not satellites, the speakers are pretty small so may be able to take it.

Found it hard to fit everything in $500 budget.

However, I have spare wharfedale speakers now (going to test if it sounds too boomy first), so that may free up budget for dvdp and power amp.

Might be able to squeeze in a pioneer dvdp + dared mp5 or something. Any opinions?

Btw, anyone tried john blue speakers before?

quite good looking, can check out if its the sound u re looking for.

can also chk tis JVC wood cone set,

Bought already. Sound was ok in the room but I think could do with smaller speakers. Seem restrained somehow.

Forgot to get my free $20 gramophone voucher. :(
