Guest Assys1606 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Hi, Anyone bought the Leo Research super tweeter at the recent AV show? It was priced at S$80 per pair then. How's the performance?
DanDon Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I bought 1 pair and no regret. IMHO, it makes the soundstage more open and songs sweeter. It also increases the db abit.

Agreed, $80 very well spend. I was looking for upgrade of speaker with tweeter that can go beyond 22KHz. This is a good temperary solution. I have change the cable to silver speaker cable , further improvement on the clarity in my system
DanDon Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Did you mean you have changed the cheapo yellow connector and the red/black cable provided for the tweeter? I have change the cable to silver speaker cable , further improvement on the clarity in my system
KKS Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Did you mean you have changed the cheapo yellow connector and the red/black cable provided for the tweeter? bingo ;D . I think that's the only thing you can help to enhance the improvement. There's a review from echoloft on this also. http://www.echoloft.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=hifigeneral&action=display&num=1196422747
hifiluv Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 after reading the echoloft thread, it looks like a good buy for $80/- just wondering how do u connect a supertweeter? do u run the tweeter cable (parallely) out fm the speaker terminal side (as in the case of jumpers) ? Tks :)
Spunky Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 WOW!! even the SF with its ring radiator seemed to improve with the ST!! :o But from the echoloft pic, it looks just like any dome tweeter. Can it really go beyond 20kHz? Anyone ever connected the ST without the main spkrs? Can you hear anything? Martin also have a 'bullet' ST displayed. Anyone knows the price? Does anyone have the pic of this Tai Cheong ST?
2100 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Auntie is using the Eminence APT80. Naturally you'd want to pad it down and xover curve according to your taste. No one size fits all. 1 pair APT80 + Ikea tube is S$240 i believe. http://www.usspeaker.com/APT80-1.htm Actually, dun waste time supertweeter lar. Just DIY your own speakers with this one. Xovering is no sweat too with the nice impedance curve. http://www.usspeaker.com/beyma%20tpl150-1.htm

Tks :) That's right, u connect the super tweeter cable parallel to the speaker's terminal. Saw that on the AV show. Some questions - 1) For speaker with 2 pairs of terminal (capable of bi-wire), is it recommend to connect the ST to the HF terminal? Or doesn't matter? 2) Any difference in the sound quality with different phase connection of the ST? In other words, the yellow connector of the ST connected to the red terminal of the speaker. After some listening, the yellow connector goes to the black terminal of the speaker.
hca2 Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Hi guys where to buy this supertweeter? million thanks

2100 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 2) Any difference in the sound quality with different phase connection of the ST? In other words, the yellow connector of the ST connected to the red terminal of the speaker. After some listening, the yellow connector goes to the black terminal of the speaker. If the phase is wrong and the freq of the hi-passed driver overlaps with the original tweeter, then there could be some dips in the freq response, but nothing too serious. You can try to sweep with a SPL meter and see "before" and "after".
audiogears Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 anyone has any experience with the ST as connected to a say 4 ohms speakers with single speaking binding post . Is the ST suitable for such speakers ?
Guest Assys1606 Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. Is the price gone back to S$100?

Lobang Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 I bought just the LR supertweeter before the show for $90 :-[. Heck, I was thinking it was inexpensive and just gave it a try. No regrets. It does work nicely as a "tweak" on my Triangle NAIA. Creates more air and music sounds more relaxed.
