xantophyll Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Hi there, I was just wondering if any of you guys have seen good 720p projectors being sold at the SITEX show. I'm looking for the Optoma HD70. Thanks.
audionoob1624705779 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I am not sure about Sitex, but Optoma is luanching a whole slew of pj in the coming months: http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/29/optoma-reveals-superabundance-of-dlp-projectors/
blackburn Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 one of my favourites: the benq w500 which uses the highly rated silicon optix hqv scalar and the cheapest projector with lens shift. it has been favourably compared to the optoma h70. take advantage of the low greenback for more discounts http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=47762.msg361233#msg361233
xantophyll Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 Hi Guys, Thanks for the reply. If optoma is coming out with the new line of projectors, then it would be quite soon before the HD 70 should see a substantial drop in price. The last time I checked at Sim Lim Square, it was going for about $1980 inclusive of gst. But the new HD 71's specification does look pretty good, esp with the increased lumens. My sister is coming back from the US for a short visit here. I'm wondering if it's advisable to ask her to get the Optoma HD 70 there? Is the voltage switchable for Singapore use? The benq also looks pretty good but I'm wary of LCD panels esp with dead pixels problem. How reliable are their projectors anyway?

I'm looking for the Optoma HD70. Thanks. SITEX is not the place for projector. Only saw NEC and BenQ. Buying from States is really a clever move as it much cheaper than getting it here. For power (voltage) wise you can check with them if comes with the 110-240v cable. Thats was provided to me when I bought my Mit HD1000U from there via Amazon so save on getting a stepdown transformer at SLT.

Is this a good buy ? as this is Benq first LCD projector, though they are good at DLP projectors ? Please advsie? thanks
blackburn Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 firstly what is your budget? the benq w500 is popular due to its price in the states and the highly rated silicon optix hqv scalar which produces a very nice picture. to make use of the silicon optix hqv scalar, you require a dvd player that feeds 480i signal to it e.g. oppo player. typically to import a unit from the states you would incur a shipping charge and gst that would be around 22.48+84 = s$106.48 on top of the price of the unit, assuming that you are using vpost and a 1 pound shipping weight. the link provided gives an indication of the prices of the various budget projectors that are hugely popular in the states. hope this helps ;D
