khewa Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 heard it being demoed in a showroom. It was the 12" model. Kinda boomy, sales person said it was not calibrated. hmm... not sure if that was the case, why demo an uncalibrated woofer ? any bros out there that has positive experience for this sub? price is about $1100. Any better alternatives at this price range ? I would like something that I can get in Singagpore, after sales service is important to me.
benzx Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 SVS would be the natural recommendation here. I'm not sure if can get in Singapore yet, visit the SVS corner for more info. If you like something that can audition and get in Singapore, others within your budget I could think of would be Definitive Technology, MJ Acoustic and Paradigm.
Ong Hai Peng Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 Sounds like the cht-12r for the price. It may sound boomy because it doesn't go very low, only to 25hz according to specs. For the same amount you may also consider the Definitive Technology subs which can do sub 20hz.
MC_Hammer Posted November 22, 2007 Posted November 22, 2007 . It may sound boomy because it doesn't go very low, only to 25hz according to specs. Don't think I will agree with this statement ::)
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 How about JL Audio Sub for HT? They are legendary for car audio sub. I had one of the 12" sub in my previous car and in an enclosed ported box and the bass was real nice and pounding for dance and hip hop music.
buzztiger Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 My velodyne when uncalibrated sounded boomy too. It just needs to be placed properly and calibrated.
ohlins Posted November 23, 2007 Posted November 23, 2007 this budget is just nice for the mj acoustics ref 100 mk 2..... very compact and although it may be a 10 inch woofer, it reaches the abyss .... box is also extremely compact if space is a premium...... woofer has a rubber surround (i dun like foam.....from past experience).... more importantly it comes with a very flexible crossover for hi and low level inputs...... and both can be used at the same time with separate curves for main speakers and LFE..... by using the supplied remote control, u can store different user preferences to meet your needs.... ok lah since i own one i may seem biased .... :) but just compare with the competition .....
khewa Posted November 23, 2007 Author Posted November 23, 2007 it is the Velodyne CHT range. I've read reveiws that Def Tech subs while they go low, are not good for music as it is not tight enough. Anyone owns the Def Tech subs ?

Anyone owns the Def Tech subs ? I auditioned quite a few subwoofers including the Velodyne CHT (10&12R), the SPL800i, B&W PV1, MJ Acoustics 100, REL Storm and various Mirage ones (can't remember model). What is your application? Music or movies?

What is your application? Music or movies? mainly movies. On certain kinds of music, pop and rock, I would like to feed the bass to the sub, for classical, vocals, it will be without the sub, so I would say 70% movies and 30% music.

If you could stretch your budget a little i would recommend you give the Monitor Audio RS W12 a try. Precision Audio at Adelphi has it. This is a 12 inch woofer with a 500w amplifier inside. For rock music and movies it does a great job.
