DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Hi all I may be moving house in HK soon and likely be getting a bigger place. I may be able to squeeze my study and HT into a single room if I do some serious space planning. The HK apartment rooms are still tiny in comparison to SG but I nonetheless I would like explore if I can indulge in some big screen movies. Anyway the room size is likely to be 8 feet by 8 feet. My question is which are the projectors with the shortest throw that can fit into this room and say project onto 60-70inch screen. I am looking for 1080P but no preference for LCD or DLP however it has to be below SGD 5k. Many Thanks
Guest francis woo Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Bro, you shud call up HiviZone Hkg and order the Sanyo z2000 (around S$3XXX) and have them deliver to yr home. I have seen this 1080P LCD projector in action and with this kind of pricing, it's a steal. Sharp and detail, good color and contrast (black still not as good as the lycos and dlps), it's value for money.
tsammyc Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 The HK apartment rooms are still tiny in comparison to SG... I think few SG rooms will be 50% the size of yours :P LCD has the most flexibility at this point and has a great price point. Epson would do you well if you move back to SG before 2 years. JVC HD1 is also good.

DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 tsammyc...pls dont laugh at my hamster equivalent living conditions here...that is why I quote my room size in feet not in metres ;D francis...is z2000 short throw pj? i am think of ae2000 but problem is more on the room size...i will check it out...problem now is if I move my HT gear into my study..I got to change my monitor audio speakers to probably satellites and a SVS cylinder...hehehe
Phil1624705739 Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Hang on for the time being and go for the new Epson EMP-TW2000. 2.1x optical zoom which should translate to around 80" for a 2.4m (7.2ft) throw distance. I'm getting 100" in my 9 x 10.5ft room with a TW1000. Phil
Guest francis woo Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 did you see the z2000 in SG or HKG? Not in Singapore. It was at Yodobashi in Japan. There was this shoot out of 1080p projectors, panny ae2000, sony vw60, mit hc6000, epson tw2000, jvc hd1 and lastly the sanyo. The sanyo (cheapest among the lot) looks sharper and more detailed than the rest. That's just me, I like my pictures this way just like I prefer the Starhub HD channels than those from the Blurays and HDDVDs. Brochure that I have shows 2.4m for 80" and 2.7m for 90". Think good enough for yr room size.
insomia Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 yeah... i am hanging on for z2000 and tw2000... like to see both low cost LCD and see what they can do... i am limited by my room size and i need a short throw pj... currently my z1x is doing 76" at 2.4m......

Can't say much about the availability for the Z2000 but Epson has no plans to bring in the TW2000 within this quarter. Phil
insomia Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 its ok, i can wait.... lets hope my bulb dont die on me... its been 2years since i brought the z1x ... :-X
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 19, 2007 Author Posted November 19, 2007 Bro, you shud call up HiviZone Hkg and order the Sanyo z2000 (around S$3XXX) and have them deliver to yr home. Francis I have looked into hivizone website and they certainly have all the goodies including AE2000 within my budget. I am not so sensitive about pricing but these guys have to be service oriented. I hope these guys will be well versed in HK apartments and able to at least do screen and pj mounting neatly. Sounds like I need 2.4m from lens to screen. Let me measure my new apartment this weekend. Besides Hivi, do you know which other shops I should look for? I know of AV Consultant and Sound n Vision Workshop in Central. Regards
Guest francis woo Posted November 20, 2007 Posted November 20, 2007 Dizzy, not sure whether the Hivizone people will do screen and pj mounting. Better to check with them and work out the costing. Other shops you can look at are those at Yau Shing Commercial Bldg at Sai Yeung Choi Str, Mongkok. If you really want professional job, then you can try The High End Home Theatre Specialist at 26F Siki Centre, 23 Jardine's Bazaar, Causeway Bay, Tel no 31885001....pretty expensive though but give them a call, you never know!! Good luck
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 20, 2007 Author Posted November 20, 2007 I hope I will not end up in this state...i.e. holding PJ on my head and use surround cans... ;D ;D ;D...
tsammyc Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 With that width, you might consider using a superwide screen and anamorphic lens
kzone Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 interesting idea though.. using a pull down as a pull up....
Phil1624705739 Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Better pay a bit more for the installation. I'm glad that I got Monsoon to install my Grayhawk RS, very professionally done. Phil
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 AE2000 is selling for HKD 23800 here. SGD 4490. This weekend I will know whether I can afford 2.4m throw distance for a 80" screen. Fingers crossed
Guest francis woo Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 I can see that you have made up yr mind to get the AE2000. This unit is also 2.4m for 80" screen size so no problem there. Can always go for 70" for a shorter throw. Pictures please when fully set up......... :D
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 My mind decides on a PJ but subject to room size and most impt "Finance Minister" approval. ;D Following which the above is clear..I will audit couple of Pjs including AE2000, PLV2000, HC6000 and TW2000...so not really make up my mind of which model...Lots of 2000s..hehehe..

All LCD? How about the BenQ W20000 DLP with 100" @ 3.3m throw distance? I was offered one for review just now but don't have the time to look at it yet. Phil

A little worse than a Optoma HD80 as far as short throw is concerned.... http://benq.com/products/Projector/?product=1240&page=specifications

Funny thing is one of our members mentioned in another post that this can project 100" at 3.3m. Phil
DizzyD1624705734 Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Any short throw DLPs? Seems like HD80 and Benq20000 is long throw without knowing if its under 5k first. Thanks

Phil It was me, but that was according to a BenQ rep at the ISS event. Perhaps there is a misunderstanding. I will amend my post before it cause more confusion.
