hoon33 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 hello, advise needed. i have one desktop computer with 3mega hertz speed bought 5 years ago. recently i ugrade to wireless starhub broad band. the wireless adapter to the computer is high speed adapter of 54mps where the computer is 11mps. any way to make the speed improve to 54mps. any hard ware to upgrade or others /. wish you can advise. thanks :) :) :) hoon33
sonofdbn Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Improving the wireless speed from 11 mbps to 54 mbps is unlikely to improve your internet speed; the top speed package available from Starhub is 10 mbps (apart from some local link stuff which I can't recall in detail), so it's slower than your wireless speed. If you need to get your wireless speed up to 54 mbps you need to make sure that the wireless adapter on your PC follows the 802.11 g or n standard. If your adapter is only 11 mbps, it's the original b standard. On your wireless router, which I'm pretty sure will support 802.11 g, you also need to set the speed to 54 mbps.
SiriuslyCold Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 change network adapter on the desktop.
hoon33 Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 change network adapter on the desktop. I have connect the motorola modem direct to the desktop is still 12mps. Suspect that the is the computer concern. Change the network adapter on the desktop. Is it change add on card on the desk top. Please advise and recommend the type of network card to get. Thank you very much for your reply and advise. cheers ;) :) :D hoon
sonofdbn Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 How is your desktop connected wirelessly to the router? Normally it would be an external USB adapter, or perhaps an internal PCI card. In either case, there's usually an antenna sticking out. If you have an add-on card, what brand/model is it?
hoon33 Posted November 18, 2007 Author Posted November 18, 2007 hello sonofdbn, I use a external USB Aztech brand type G, connected to the PC. What next ? thanks hoon33 :) ;) :D
sonofdbn Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 If the Aztech is type g, then it's a little weird that you're only getting 11 mbps. Where did you see this speed shown? If it's really 11 mbps, then I suggest you check your router's wireless settings and make sure it's set to connect at 54 mbps. Also check that the Aztech is set to connect at 54 mbps. You'll have to look at the instructions that came with both devices or search the net for instructions.
dna Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 if u are using usb wireless adapter. the limit should be on your comnputer's usb ports. USB 1.0 max transfer is limited at 12mbps.
