blackburn Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 the wilson audio maxx series 2 is on show :P and the native contrast ratio of 30,000:1 jvc dla-hd100 :o
HT102 Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 There was a prototype BenQ W20000 on display. According to BenQ folks, it has a short-throw of 3.3m for 100" and will be available by mid Dec'07. However, this new 1080p DLP will be priced uncharacteristically ~S$20k. Also, there will be an enhanced model (probably a W20000+) with DarkChip4 next year.

So their model W500, is it priced at $500? ;)
zermat Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Spoke to a plumb, fair-looking guy. He told me they were looking at pricing it around $15K - $16K. When I asked him why so expensive. He shot back and said the "Benq W20000 is a 3-Chip" ! I nearly dropped dead !

htfreak Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 Once you see the HD100, none of the other projectors matter any more. Hence, don't make the mistake of going to Sammy's booth first as you will regret it when you start seeing the other lacklustre projectors on display in the show. On another note, Snazio has finally got their HD PVR box ready for release soon. They had one unit connected to the HD100 and at one point was playing back captured scenes of FF4 which was broadcasting last Sunday. According to the engineer who was there, he mentioned that the device allows one to copy out the captured stuff on the HDD but they have not decided whether to enable it or not. Tentative pricing was said to be around $699. At the Onkyo side of things, I caught up with an old friend who's an insider there. He confirmed that they have just received the firmware updates for the Onkyo receivers. However, this upgrading will have to be done at their premises since it requires specialised hardware. Most likely I will catch up with him again after the show and see how we go from there but the thought of bringing that beast of mine all the way to Genting Lane scares me and my poor old back.

Hence, don't make the mistake of going to Sammy's booth first as you will regret it..... ;D Truer words couldn't be said! I made that "mistake" too and now I'm seriously considering selling my HD-1 for the upgrade. Not only do you get double the contrast of the HD-1, but the HD100 has an built-in CMS to change gamma settings on the primaries and hence reduce color saturation for those of us who feel the HD-1 is overly saturated. If purchase the HD100 then won't need that Lumagen Radiance! The HD100 just seemed to offer all of the little refinements that I was looking for over the HD-1....CMS, more contrast, more detailed blacks and sharper image....what a package.
zermat Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 What's the price of the HD100? Any offer from Sammy for trade-in for those who bought the HD1 last than a year ago?

Oh, so you were not the one who confirmed with Sammy to upgrade to the HD100, now wondering who might that XP member be? The HD100 is going for $10,999. Much cheaper than that 50" Full HD Kuro right. ;D
c7221624705751 Posted November 17, 2007 Posted November 17, 2007 yea the HD100 is very nice. Especially when Jessica Alba is on it . ;D The US MSRP is $7999. So S$11k is quite reasonable. but jeff this is not the crown jewel of the show. The Sim2 HT3000E is.
Genesis Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Oh, so you were not the one who confirmed with Sammy to upgrade to the HD100, now wondering who might that XP member be? The HD100 is going for $10,999. Much cheaper than that 50" Full HD Kuro right. ;D Yeah that was me :) I discussed with Sammy a possible upgrade, but the HD100 won't be arriving here until Christmas. The JVC rep said that they were lucky to get the one for the show. Also, it wasn't calibrated, what we saw was right out of the box. When I asked to see the CMS settings, the rep had to go looking for them, but eventually found the gamma curves. Last night I watched HD-DVD of Seabiscuit on my now upgraded to 2.7 firmware XA2 on my HD-1. As much as it looked totally awesome (and rock solid at 47.96hz), it's already gnawing away at me that I could be toning down those saturation levels. So the question is, how long will I be able to stand it...hehe :P
tsammyc Posted November 18, 2007 Posted November 18, 2007 Genesis, unless you have a pitch black room, you might not be able to see the difference between a HD1 and HD100. If you're selling your HD1, I think it will be fairly easy to sell.
Quest88 Posted November 19, 2007 Posted November 19, 2007 The JVC HD100 really looked great. Even my date started to agree I should get one, even after looking at the price tag. lol

Yes, my room is pitch black, just like the demo room, but I do appreciate your point and will head over to Sound Decisions for some direct comparisions between the two before I make up my mind.

Just to let you know that there is always a willing buyer....like me.... waiting in the wing for scraps off you projector table in case you are thinking of off-loading your HD1.... ;D ;D ;D
