Hi folks,

I am thinking of getting LCD TV 37'', 40'' or 42'' to replace my old TV.

My budget is $4k or less. The usage will be for watching movie, TV and playing wii.

I am planning to get Full HD for future proof (I hope) and good resale value (if I need to replace them after 1-2 years).

These are few candidates (sort by personal preference):

1) Sharp LC-42G7M

2) Sharp LC-37A63M

3) Sony KLV-40X200A

4) Samsung LA-40N81BX

5) Samsung LA-40M81BX

6) LG 42LB7RF

Please keep the advices coming :-)

Thanks.

not considering a 50" WXGA plasma?

how far is your viewing distance? You may not be able to see any difference between a full HD and WXGA Plasma.

I was also searching for LCD TV for my room. Viewing distance is 2.5M.

Can't decide on which size to get : 37", 40" or 42".

My thot is : 40" is the best but the price of the 40" (SONY or Samsung) is too ex. easily approx $4500/+- after deducting the free gifts or cash voucher.

I find Sharp gives the best value:

a. 42A83M (Full HD, 1+2 yrs Warranty). Quoted : $4070 with another $300 Cash Card from Sharp

b. 37A63M (Full HD, 1+2 yrs Warranty). Quoted : $3799 with another $300 Cash Card from Sharp

So most likely I will get Sharp for the Best Bang for Buck.

ps. I don't seems to see much discussion on Sharp LCD. Appreciate if any Bros who are using Sharp to give some feedback.

i thought samsung has an old model 40" full HD going for just $2K?

Plasma wise, wait for the next wave of Panasonic price slash :) should be either SITEX or Christmas sales.

Which Samsung model is that? All the Full HD model is priced around >4K+.

Although I'm going for the latest offerings, I might just take a look at the 2K Full HD model that you mentioned.

Already rule out Plasma. Cos my choice for Plasma is Pioneer which I'm having the 436 mdl in my living room. But I can't afford the 50" FULL HD model... :'(

Update the candidate lists with prices. Wife doesn't like 37'', so options are 40'' and above for now..

1) Sharp LC-42G7M    => $3499 (HN)

2) Sharp LC-42A63M  => $4399 + $250 NTUC voucher (HN)

3) Sony KLV-40X200A    => $3999 (HN)

4) Samsung LA-40M81BX => $4299 + $400 NTUC voucher (HN)

5) LG 42LB7RF  => $3999 + $300 NTUC voucher (HN)

6) Pioneer Kuro PDP-428XG  => $4299  (HN), this is not full HD, but when I compare to other displays in HN, this one has the best color/picture quality!

@TYF: Where do you get Sharp 42A83M for $4070 with $300 cashcard? Share pls :D

aiyo, plasma beat LCD anytime lar. You can compare all these with the LG PC5R and Panasonic PV70 which has a much sharper image compared to Kuro too.

I was at HN and the salesppl just turn on the swinging pendulum globe test. Plasma's globe can still see the country very clear but the LCD koyak.

Hi leonz, I got the Sharp 42A83M quote from a neighborhood shop at Kovan (tel : 62888611, Goh Ah Bee). I reckon that since nowadays the 1+2 warranty is already given by the manufacturer themselves. There is no point for me to buy from the Mega store like Courts or HM. I can live with 3 years and don't intend to purchase more, so it's ok to buy from the friendly neighborhood shop as they usually give better pricing. The best part is : they will still throw in whatever free gifts that that comes with it, in this case the $300 cashcard.

btw, the Sharp 63M model that you got a quote from HM with $250 NTUC voucher, can we still claim the $200 Cash card from Sharp?
