annapurna Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I am thinking of ordering Bluray and DVDs from Amazon.com. Is it cheaper to get them to ship it directly to Singapore or will it be cheaper to ship to Vpost USA and then to Singapore? How many discs should I order at any one time to be cost effective? Thanks!

What will be the shipping cost like and how long does it normally take? Will it be cheaper to order more each time?
naglfar Posted October 27, 2007 Posted October 27, 2007 Thanks. What about ordering direct? What will be the shipping cost like and how long does it normally take? Will it be cheaper to order more each time? I just received 2 Blu Ray in the mail today. Shipping was about US$13. Took about 10 days - delivered by Speedpost Courier service. I know it would be more cost efficient to order more, but I don't want to risk being detained by MDA.

I know it would be more cost efficient to order more, but I don't want to risk being detained by MDA. Just ordered 9 blurays from Amazon.com. Vpost tie-in with UOB and ordering it thru their "Toolbar" bar saved me about 13% in shipping from Vpost and another 3% discount from Amazon. On average, the discs cost around S$33 each only, including shipping to Singapore. Furthermore, with this "toolbar", payment is much easire, shipping charges is shown instantly and everything is automated.
htfreak Posted November 1, 2007 Posted November 1, 2007 Looks like Fox BD titles at Amazon has dropped their usual $27.95 price to $23.95. Let's hope that it's a permanent price drop for their titles.

Only thing that I don't like about the toolbar method for ordering DVD's is that it continually charges you $5 for each disc you add without eventually switching to a charge by weight mechanism. Compared to Comgateway, I just ordered 8 discs from Amazon using them as a gateway and I was only charged US$22 and this is before the 4% Amazon rebate and the base charge waiver of US$8.50 as I'm among the first 2500 HSBC customers. On top of this, I got free insurance as well. Further more, they have a landed cost option which gives you an estimated cost for the items you order and if the final shipping cost is more than what was quoted to you, you don't have to pay the excess and if it is below, they refund you the difference.

Gaolow Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 i just ordered 6 blu ray dvds using the toolbar and the final vpost charge was S$27+ so average about S$38 per title
Film Addict Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Wow the figures all of you've been quoting are quite cheep. I ordered a couple dvds a few months ago on amazon using vpost too. And on average...each dvd plus shipping cost $29...which is quite expensive...comparing...then again...that time there was no discount from vpost at all. Just ordered 9 blurays from Amazon.com. Vpost tie-in with UOB and ordering it thru their "Toolbar" bar saved me about 13% in shipping from Vpost and another 3% discount from Amazon. fabryuk Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 It really depends on how expensive the bluray disc and how many u order....
Film Addict Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 i just ordered 6 blu ray dvds using the toolbar and the final vpost charge was S$27+ so average about S$38 per title I'm thinking of ordering 10 titles (DVDS and games) ...doing a mental calculation for the shipping...8.14+(5.09)10=59.04... I have to fork out $59.04 ...wow...And I don't have the UOB card.

Most of them cost between US$12-18. Titles that I ordered include 300, Dinosaur, Fifth Element remastered, Bridge to Terabithia, TMNT, Surf Up, Deja Vu, Convenant, Doctor Strange

blackburn Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 i just ordered 6 blu ray dvds using the toolbar and the final vpost charge was S$27+so average about S$38 per title using the online calculator, the charges for shipping 6 bd titles after the 13% and 3% discount i get 0.87*0.97*[$8.14+($5.09)*6]=$32.642052 https://www.vpost.com.sg/vpost/vshopCalculator?query=Calculate
annapurna Posted November 9, 2007 Author Posted November 9, 2007 Oh dvds then not bluray right. These are all blurays not DVDs.
htfreak Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Isn't the 3% rebate based on the total purchase amount and not on the shipping fees?
kzone Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 Only thing that I don't like about the toolbar method for ordering DVD's is that it continually charges you $5 for each disc you add without eventually switching to a charge by weight mechanism. In dat case it might be cheaper to do it the old method without the toolbar (cos they charge under 'others' when u have 5 discs or more) but u'll loose out on the 3% rebate.. btw, its interesting to see how vpost toolbar charge during Amazon promo such as buy 1 get 1 free....
Film Addict Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 These are all blurays not DVDs. Really...but when I looked at amazon...the title you mentioned..Bluray for 300/Dejavu/Dinsaur...they were all USD23.95 http://www.amazon.com/300-Blu-ray-Gerard-Butler/dp/B000Q6GX5Y/ref=sr_1_10/104-8334894-5409559?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1194664791&sr=1-10 Did you get further discounts on Amazon...or some more promotions?

When you go to Amazon site, there are few prices for the Bluray disc. The $23.95 price is from Amazon directly. On the same page, at the bottom, you will see a red button "Buy New/Used" from $XX.XX. You click this button and you will see Blurays much cheaper than Amazon. You have a choice to buy New or Used and most of the time, the New discs will be cheaper as compared to buying direct from Amazon. The "New" discs are actually sold by Amazons merchant. When you check-out, the payment is made to Amazon and the Merchant will ship direct to Vpost. These transactions are guranteed by Amazon and it is quite safe as the purchase is from Amazon site.

I did made a call to Vpost but it can't be withdrawn from my purchase the poor old lady over the phone just keep telling me to feedback to them thats all. Kinda pissed by it.
htfreak Posted November 10, 2007 Posted November 10, 2007 pls refrain from using the vpost toolbar its a rip-off as I ordered thru that last week for two blu-ray disc costing abt US$40 (entitled to free shipping to USA vpost) and the toolbar convert the amount to S$50 and after the UOB 13% and 3% rebate i paid S$41.70 for the shipping charges which its outrageous >:( it cost more than double i used to order so pls pls refrain from using the toolbar. Hmm.. there must have been some mistake. The only time the toolbar would charge S$25 for each item is when you are ordering a bulky item like a Highdef player for example. When adding movie discs to the tray, it will usually add the S$13 base charge followed by a S$5 item charge. If I were you, I will kick up as much noise as I could at Vpost even though partly it was your fault for not checking the amount before confirming the transaction. If all else fails, write to the Straits Times forum, that always does the trick. Good luck.

I ordered 9 blurays using the toolbar and was only charged $40 for Vpost shipping. There must be something not right with your order.

Dats still ex cos with the "non toolbar" method, u'd be charge closer to $30.. but the 2 BD for S$41.70 is surey something wrong... can call them up & ask them how they come up with dat amt... & there's something wrong with the US40 to SGD50 conversion too ;)
