hi peeps,

ok, before y'all are scratching your heads (i can see that liao!), doraemon i'm referring to an useful machine capable of pulling out all the tricks with ease, whereas Ah Dou in the chinese classic novel, is a piece of useless shite in my own hifi definition.

and so what do you think of all-in-one component (dvd, cd, tuner, amp)?

for me, i can see that my folks will have lesser difficulty in juggling with the remotes (only tv and the a/v receiver... hooray!)

secondly, less cables, less mess as well. so that it will be easier for me to remove the equipment.

third, my living room will look unprecedentedly neat and tidy, with the all-in-one using the same floorstanding to play music or movie, of course not at the same time  :P.

fourth, value for money without compromising too much on quality.

i think some of you may think that 'heck, why don't you just get a sony or panny 5.1 ch system?'

but i'm not gonna do so, as i never trust those stuff anyway.

and i'm gonna get a pair of good floorstanding speakers (is that adequate boh? without center speaker and surround/satellite speakers?)

and many of you may be concerned whether the whole system will still work if one part of the component such as the tuner section breaks down. (that's one of my worries too)

therefore, need all of ya advice on getting a all-in-one system... your views on the pros and cons of having one.

if i must get one of the NAD above, and IF i manage to get one in Singapore (got to check Lenbrook with that), what do you think are the suitable floorstanders for it, in terms of getting the best out of such all-in-one, and with a budget of S$2000 for the speakers (i don't know how much the NAD all-in-one costs). my folks at home in the living room listen to oldies and vocals.

Thanks so much for reading!!!!!

those are only SD players.. u r likely to get a hidef player soon and end up with 2 boxes... so why not get an AV receiver + a hidef player instead? & since u'll be using only 2 speakers.. try to find those AVR that can be bridged for stereo use,,,

hmmmmm kzone....

the thing is my folks will be changing the tv cabinet soon, to allow more air flow and circulation needed for the stoooopid hitachi plasma, which is a sick old adolescent.

and hence, time may come sooner than expected for the dvd receiver...

and don't think my folks will adopt HD stuff soon, so a SD receiver might do the trick for these few years first.

and don't think they will handle the operation well, with both the receiver and dvd player needed to be switched on.

but hey, this is a real concern (HD players).
