yoz peeps,

i'll cut short my questions coz there's quite a few...  ;D

1) where do you buy your speaker spikes?

2) is there such a thing as DIY spikes?

3) any cheap and affordable spikes that cost like 4 for 10-30 bucks?

4) is there any 'technology' involved with the spikes or vibration-reducing dampeners? i had seen one complex dampener before, but that costs a bomb! (something like 300-plus or what)

5) how do you differentiate a pair of good or not-so-good (that means not much difference in sound reproduction quality) spikes?

6) why are some of the spikes so expensive? i thought it's just a piece of pointed metal?

pardon me for all these noob questions. truth is, i'm indeed a noob. heh

Hi bro, you can get better answers at Echoloft

Hi bro, you can get better answers at Echoloft

hahahhaha....

the reason why i seldom go to echoloft is that

1) the search function is currently down

2) what the people are talking over there are too atas (cheem) for me to understand. not the same frequency, you get what i mean? esp when i go to their audio threads, no offence to fellow echoloft-ers over here, but there's hardly any threads on indie rock/alt rock/psychedelic rock/pop rock. different league and taste, you may think. BUT i like some of the columns such as the DIY section. very enlightening.

3) though there are several people over here who surf echoloft regularly, but i think what they speak over here makes more sense to a layman like me.

but all's not lost in my question over here. Some kind bro in this forum informed me about the shop in adelphi that sells the spikes and about the pricing. and so i'll pay a visit to the shop sometime soon when i recover my money strength.  ;D

You can try New Disc Village at 3th floor Adelphi. I bought it there!

thanks CRM!

woah, that makes it two locations for me to track 'em down! thanks!

awaiting for my Vitamin M to recuperate...

Give you another one: Avit Link at SLS 2nd fl and a couple of hifi shops at ground fl.

Btw, if you need a vibration dampener/isolation, $3 cork pad will do the job  ;)

woah, i'm sure i won't mind an overloading of information! thanks!

well, dampener also boleh! but also want to have more focused bass.... then feel more shiok! kekekekkekeke

but room's small lar, so that much bass is also pretty much pointless....

well, will surely go scout around!

i have a number of spikes together with the floorstander at home....but removed it now cause it was causing major damage to the floor.... but i listen to it with spikes and without.... like no difference leh. what should i be listening for ah...

Someone in echoloft recommended TAOC spike at $150 for set of 3 since u seldom go echoloft...  ;D

woah, gam xia for the help!! i sure do prefer the xtremeplace layout more and hence i'm here much more often than in echoloft. the spikes sure look very attractive! cute tiny little spikes on some platform thingy... woah.

but the price is woah-some to me as well. can't afford it sia.

but no harm staring at them. hahahahha

yoz synthesis! thanks!

i've tried your cork pad (i paid slightly more, but heck, it's still as cheap as two loaves of bread! hahha) and it works!

not that my ears are playing trick on me, but the sound reproduced sounds more collected and focused! woah.

cheap and good sia. though i must say that i had a hard time to cut through the cork pad to my desired size... tried different penknives and cutting methods. hahahah

ooops, paiseh, forgot to add that i've been playing my favourite cd (Elliott Smith's From a Basement on the Hill) for many nights already, and this time round they (the pads) make a huge difference....

anyway, i've only use the pads on my cdplayer and amp.

but for the speakers....

I performed DIY spikes on my old JBL floorstanders recetly.

It was pretty quick to get it done.

Share with you on my experience and where to get the parts.

Installation instructions can be found at http://www.oregondv.com/Spike%20Installation.pdf

More time is needed to get the parts.

1. Drill

2. Screw Inserts (They called "Ong Lai Nut") $0.40/pc, Can get from Halifah in Ang Mo Kio Ind Park 2 Blk 5022

3. Treaded spikes, Can get from AvitLink. $5/pc (Very Exp, but no choice. :p)

The Bass sounds slightly tighter now, but not good enough.

Wil be embarking on acoustic treatment. ;D

Pls state if you are using floorstanders/bookshelfs.

No need to add spikes in between bookshelf speaker and stands if that what u are refering.

Spikes will be installed at the bottom of the stands.

The instruction are for Floorstanders without spikes.
