Just found out ETI aren't showing due to economic reasons. Sad to see another one apparently gone. The receivers were trying to get the organisers to refund the money paid for their space.

Wow - seriously ??

I think reports of their demise may be a bit premature:

Pity they had to pull out of the show - would loved to have heard what show attendees thought of the AMG's.

Thanks

Yep I just got home and saw that thread. Hopefully all is good as they have soem great products and IP. I have loads of cable pods and RCA plugs from ETI around the house, and they obviously have a great relationship with Mike L. The note from Trevor seemed pretty positive, obviously it's a hard market out there

Would be great if people could give reports on rooms they thought performed well!

and pics if anybody has them. Somebody must surely! I remember at the Melbourne show there was a million people taking photos to the point that it got pretty annoying

Interesting comment? I would have thought that the photos would have been a boon to those unfortunate enough to be unable to attend. As a matter of fact even though I attended the Melbourne one I enjoyed the photos because they came with interesting observations.I reckon the more photos the better!

Yes of course photos are good for those not able to attend.

But as an attendee at the Melbourne show, it sucked. You'd be sitting there listening and suddenly the sound would turn to ****- somebody would be standing in from of a speaker with a camera lens half jammed down the woofer.

I recall one manufacturer, SGR iirc, commenting that the majority of people were more interested in taking photos of their speakers rather than actually listening to them.

I suppose my problem wasnt people taking photos, just the manner in which this seemed to occur.

Of course, now I'm on the other side of the fence and some photos would be great!

pretty suboptimal set up for most of them, rooms were pretty small..I enjoyed these for various reasons though;

Thrax and Kaiser loudspeakers

Kyron Speakers

Von Schweiert VR4

Analysis audio planars Omega, Omicron

Voxativ Ampeggio

B&W 800

Osborn

JBL 4700's

Magnepans 3.7

Sonus Faber

Wisdom Planars

VAF

Lenehans

And lots of nice class A and tube amps...

Would add the Martin Logan's to the mix with Pass amplification

B&W 800s were impressive across the frequency range

Would second the big JBLs with the horns, they were great for live blues and jazz recordings

Listened to the ML2 refs, excellent with female vocals in what was a very ordinary room

Also listened to the AKG K550s, these were cool for closed headphones even driven by an iPod!

Definitely worth a visit if you're undecided

I've spoken to ETI at length and all seems okay now, new owner already and a positive outlook.

The Kyron active dipoles were the

standout. 2 local guys taking on the world.

Osborn show prices on his reference speakers are the show's best buys.

I liked the Vienna Acoustics on level 1.

The Space Audio 2 ways presented a great soundstage, though expensive.

The Magnepan ribbons were exceptional with vocal presentation and a 3D sound stage.

I saw most, but not all. Some I thought was less than expected.

I enjoy being able to see what is current, & accept that rooms are constrained, in more ways than 1.

A cheap day out.

I think the TAD room was my favourite, although Kyron and Bryston / Dynaudio room were both very good.

The biggest disappointment for me was the KEF blade speakers. A beatiful looking speaker but I found them bright, sibilant and boomy. The room obviously didn't help but I found them very fatiguing.

It was the room, there was no more than 6 ft between the speakers and the chairs/walls. I would have not been surprised if the little LS50's sounded better.

I have heard the Blades at Advance Audio's office which has a bigger room with Gryphon amps. They are anything but bright, sibilant and boomy.

Tad was nice, notice it was a small speaker surrounded in thick curtains. It had less battles against the room.

Cheers

not a bad showing at all, although the rooms had to fight the acoustics somewhat. overall some good sound was to be found, while others just sounded 'hi-fi'...

cameron's (krispy kables) room was very nice! quiet corner position with a long corridor to hangout in with an abundance of soft sunlight, showcasing an array of beautiful, low-rise (as opposed to some rooms who had gear stacked 6 foot high) grand prix racks featuring some esoteric, dcs, shunyata and aurender gear feeding verity audio speakers. very relaxed sound - me likey :party and the new k-03 player is dead sexy! a great vibe in this room.

other notables were;

some bloke playing some dark variety tracks in a room featuring a cec tl1 belt-driven transport and jolida amplification.

the room with the eat forte s deck with karan amplification.

the technical brain room.

the spiral groove deck feeding ypsilon vps-100 phonostage and ypsilon amps playing some lisa gerrard and brenden perry. was good but room too small for system.

the once analog/mike lenehan room sounded great too - very natural sound.

most other rooms sounded too 'hi-fi', ie., un-natural, and very digital with ipads being the main source, but i suppose this is a reflection of what the market thinks is 'cool'.

biggest disappointment was definitely the guys showing the audio research ref 5se/250 gear with sonus faber speakers.

they had the gear cordoned off!!!!$%^& so you couldn't go near it, and had the subs bunched right into the corners of a small room which totally ruined the sound.

in fact, many rooms were presented with little thought and looked like some roadies had just come in and bolted it all together. not much in the way of love.

some speakers and gear were so dusty, maybe the lead-time to set-up was short or something, but hey, a little care goes a long way.

i had fun though, and saw what i wanted to see.

best of the show for me was tied.

krispy kables/reference audio visual

once analog/mike lenehan

good work guys!!! :hiccup

Few great room

TAD

Most impressive sound & good value for money to me was Brodmann speakes & Electrocompaniet.

Most disappointed room Zensalti , Ypsilon, Kef Blade .

Perhaps those high end system needs more room to sing .

Well I was in Sydney for a different purpose altogether but I snuck in for a whopping 90 minutes and I got to see that Duntech have now made their own mono block valve power amps - looked and sounded sweet. Kiat is a nice bloke and he gently chastised me for selling my Aurora 3.3's earlier this year. :)

Also got to meet Mike from Magenta Audio in the Sydney Hi-Fi room where they were showing off some Union Research, PS Audio, Zu Audio and Audio Physics. Mike is also a top guy.

I would have liked to have visited the B&W and Classe room but I got told to come back later... WTF?

If they have one next year I will make a full weekend of it.

Thought the Kyron room sounded superb and loved the Osborn room though it was bloody hot in there. The Maggie's also sounded great though I question the move to pair 8k speakers with 15k worth of Zansati cables. In an opposite type of move, one room paired a 9k EAT turntable with a $450 cartridge and it sounded superb! It does raise the question of what exhibitors should pair their gear with. I would prefer to hear the ccomponents with likely partners rather than either super expensive or unrealistically lower end ancillaries.

Biggest disappointment for me was the Lenehan room due to very poor music choice ( soundtrack of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly). I love Lenehan speakers and this music just gave the ML2s nothing to work with. Also disappointed with the Vienna Acoustics speakers in a couple of rooms combined with Primate electronics.

I was the only one wearing a SNA polo shirt.

I reckon 20 people asked me about it.

But none of them introduced themselves. Bit weird.

Maybe time for another batch of polo shirts!?

That is weird. Surely the line would be "SNA!!!, gday, I'm 'cablenazi'" or whatever your handle is.

Yoh Happy Pants I thought Magnepan too!--they were Analysis from Greece

I agree for my intro to the fabled Lenehans--OK but nothing special I thought--poor presentation and that room didn't do them any favours.

The Kyrons are a brave move and I applaud-- too damn loud playback--though and the mids shouted and became hard and fatiguing --but could be promising kudos!

I know a guy in the US that has some Analysis - replaced the capacitors with Duelund Cast and raves about them.

Pitty you didn't get to hear the Lenehans at their best - I am surprised at that choice of music.

Thanks

Well, last year in Melbourne I took lots of photos intending to post them. But lots of people beat me to it and posted heaps of excellent pics.

So, this time I just took some "snapshots" using an old Canon point and shoot on an auto flash setting purely for my own reference. However, given the limited number of pics that have been posted, I guess some people might want to see them.

So, here they are - please overlook the lack of composition etc. I'm not very good at it anyway and this time I was just trying to get images of the gear without intruding.
