Willco Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Dont get to see much stuff in the flesh up here in Qld these days with the demise of a lot of Hi Fi shops here, so it was a good chance to pick up small items(or so i thought).I cant remember the company selling the s/h gear near the entrance but when i saw it i thought it looked promising for more rooms to be selling bits and bobs too.Its all well and good taking orders, but i think a lot of us will buy there and then on impulse if a reasonably priced item takes our fancy(good for the retailer, not so good if youre trying to watch spending though i suppose) I Yoh Ata, I'm not sure of the terms/conditions /etc that the local show lay out for rooms but if it is similar to CES Audio rooms I believe they have restrictions on actually physically selling goods in the demo rooms rather than doing trade/import deals. I was told a couple of years ago a reputable Asian Company had their room terminated for conducting actual sales there. Grey area-yes- of the exact wording--of which I am not party to. Possibly a recent CES exhibitor can chime in. The booths/ foyer /ballrooms/etc are the "bits and bobs" outlets Willco
atavid Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Wilco I wondered if something like that may have been the case.Although isn't the CES a"real" trade show, where as the hi fi show is basically for non trade mum and dad punters.? JohnA, I must have completely missed the booth selling music,I'm not surprised though,it was a real crush at the time I was there.
Willco Posted September 15, 2012 Posted September 15, 2012 Yoh A, Yes you are correct re CES--I guess with the local show being more in manner of RMAF--which is public. At RMAF and Newport anything goes--ha! Willco
Guest JohnA Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 JohnA, I must have completely missed the booth selling music,I'm not surprised though,it was a real crush at the time I was there. It is a shame you missed them.. They were in the foyer just a little further up from where you purchased the tickets and entered the show. They have one of the best selection of records in Melbourne http://www.qualityrecords.com.au/Instock%20A%20to%20D.htm
Guest Peter the Greek Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 No SGR.......pity From people's experiences with other shows, will the Friday afternoon be busy? I was thinking of ducking out of the office for a few hours, will everyone be up and running for the Friday or will they still be setting up?
mikey d Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I'm all organised to go & would love to have a night out with other sna'ers that will be there. Any suggestions?
Gee Emm Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I'm staying a hotel close by on Friday & Saturday night I fly back to Melbourne on Sunday night. Graham

Luc Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Still wondering whether to go, only ever been to Sydney once so I don't know the place and don't know anyone down there apart from a nephew or two. Guess it'll be exxy to stay at a hotel for the duration.
Guest guru Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Sydney motor show begins on the Friday as well so there will be a lot of punters in town.
LogicprObe Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Friday night too, eh LP Not allowed out 2 nights in a row. She knows me too well...........................and I'm too old for all weekend benders!
Tony M Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Sydney motor show begins on the Friday as well so there will be a lot of punters in town. Well, Autoclassica was on in Melbourne at the same time as the last show. The motor show might just be the added incentive I need to spend a w/e in Sydney.
firefly0071 Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 Anyone going night clubbing in the evening?
mikey d Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I'd like to meet some chaps & perhaps partake in shenanigans. I hear that the Cross is a warm, welcoming & sophisticated entertainment district
Luc Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I'd like to meet some chaps & perhaps partake in shenanigans. I hear that the Cross is a warm, welcoming & sophisticated entertainment district You going then Mikey?
LogicprObe Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 This is just a suggestion........... http://www.schwartzbreweryhotel.com/index.html Just a short walk through Hyde Park. Has free live music some quieter bars. Those who want to kick on can just go around the corner to Oxford Street!
mikey d Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 You going then Mikey? Definitely be there Lee. Leavin' the missus on the farm to collect the eggs. Perhaps if all SNA,ers could wear a bow-tie or something to identify ourselves or maybe a secret handshake. Is it worthwhile buying tix in advance? (PM me Lee)
Bus_Boy Posted September 25, 2012 Posted September 25, 2012 I should have put some money aside for this years one, i wanted to go last year but by the time i added up the flights and just staying in a backpackers for one night i was looking at about 500 bucks, which is a lot of money just to check out some audio gear i'll never own or afford. Can't we just go into JB Hi Fi and pretend
mikey d Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 C'mon guys........who's up for a bit of mischief?
