Rida (Tel: 64664600), a video rental shop at Serene Centre, is testing the Blu-ray waters with the Surf's Up Blu-ray available for rental. They will have Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard) Blu-ray when it is released. They will continue to bring in Blu-rays for rental if it makes sense to do so.

Disclaimer: I am a customer of Rida.

Currently available Blu-ray titles:

Surf's Up

Reign Over Me (Adam Sandler drama)

Upcoming Blu-ray titles:

Die Hard 4.0 (Live Free or Die Hard)

Sounds like a plan! :)

I don't mind renting Die Hard 4.0 cos I just can't stomach buying the theatrical release.. not when you know there is a R rated version on DVD!!

I am also tired of buying crap like Vacancy or Perfect Strangers just cos I hadn't watched them!

Do they do "mail in" rental?

Actually, I intended to start HD DVD rental but could not decide whether to stork Blu-ray or HD.

also very hard to find suppliers until now, even then the current suppliers are still testing the market

I only got 2 customer asking for HDDVD but, only 1 guy is regular.

What is Rida's rental rates for Blu-Ray disc ?

Pls let me know so I could calculate as to how many times rental to break even ;D ;D

Are you a licenced video shop ? If not you will need one to do rental otherwise if you get caught the fine will be about 20K. Also you need a Bank guarantee of 30k to get a licence. ;D ;D

yup, in the process to get the license and all. As a part time cause do not tink is still that feasible to start this full time yet. Kinda like 2nd job. Still trying to work out costing and collection point. Of coz, will give forumer a special price!!!

30K bankers guarantee  Reg. pte ltd Co,  cannot operate without a shop front. annual licence fees $1,200

If you want to rent among your friends, keep a low profile you might last longer otherwise the MDA enforcement unit will get you very fast. max fine 20K regardless of how many DVDs you have,

in default 4 or 5 months jail. If you have burn disc the MPAA will get you another 10K

Remember keep a low profile ;D ;D

Talk to Laura, understand that she only has a few BR DVDs, intended to rent about $10/- each.

I actually intend to start Bu Ray DVD rentals, as soon as I could calculate if it justify the cost, and also as soon as more supplies available(currently there is no wholesale price for Video shops) ;D ;D

That is not the rate from what I understand from her. Don't mislead people and I am sure their regulars will know better. BD and HD-DVD is almost the same cost as a R1 so I don't think you you need a PHD to cal your cost. If you want to start BD by all means dun have to tell the whole world about it. I just email Gramophone and they will be starting soon as well. You want to check with their suppliers too and offer $30/mth unlimitd acess?

If you think you have something better to offer by all means start a new thread. Instead of making fun of spidy and not showing Rita professional courtesy. Didn't see any of your regulars posting here anyway.  ???

Currently, the Rida rental rate for Blu-ray is:

Customers with no credits: $10

Customers with credits: 2 credits (DVD: 1 credit)

When there is more demand in the future to cover the cost of Blu-rays, the rental rate will be reduced, probably the same as DVDs. Nobody knows if Blu-ray rental is commercially viable yet. So... ;)

Waiting for Transformer and Die Hard 4.0. Think they should have more action movies so as to get things going. Yeah will wait for them to finalise the price. Here are a few titles for your to consider.

More than 100,000 copies of Transformers on HD DVD were sold on the title's first day of release, the movie's distributor, Paramount Home Entertainment, revealed last night. It went on to sell 90,000 more copies during its first week.

So I guess the format war is not gonna end so soon as both have equally many titles (click on the link)

HD-DVD

Blu-Ray

So do give your support guys so that they can bring in more titles at a better rate and in the long run is a win-win situation for everybody.  :P
