harlow everybody,

keke, i've never been to KL before, but am going to there (the Convention Centre) next month for work purposes.

so i would like y'all where to hear out the audio stuff ar? am not going to buy, maybe just hear hear (esp mini bookshelf speakers that can reveal every single detail in a cd, and the test-audition of different cables), especially those lesser-known brands and especially those that could not be found in local shores.

have a few questions therefore:-

1) what are the (credible) brands that could not be found or extremely hard to find in singapore?

2) what are and where are the shops in KL (especially near the CC) that sells the audio stuff?

3) which are the credible shops that offer friendly service and won't 'chop carrot head'?

4) if there are a few, what are their opening hours like? 'coz i'm afraid i may not be able to make it in time if the shops close as early as those in adelphi.

5) price-wise, is KL any cheaper than Singapore in terms of audio stuff? very concerned about NAD cd players. kekekekekeke

Thank you so much (for simply reading)!

I once asked about my Paradigm Atoms

US$189 /pr

SGD$300 /pr

RM 1071 /pr

AFAIK only Harbeth seems cheaper in KL

HiFi is classified as non-essential/luxury items and attract a heavy luxury tax (not sure but could be 15% to 25%)

Hi

I hope echoloft comes back online in time, there is a nice long thread on KL hi fi there. Yes Harbeth is good value there, but don't hold your breath on cheap other stuff there.

Just enjoy the good food and warm smiles.

If you are talking about KL Convention Centre, maybe you can try Sungei Wang Plaza, there are 2-3 hifi shops there (11am -8.30pm) but if you wanna listen to something more poisonous you can try Perfect Hifi in jln Raja Chulan (11am-7.30pm) I hv not been there b4 but i hv heard they a real good on pairing systems from entry to high end.  Sungei Wang Plaza & Jln Raja Chulan were walking distance from KL Convention Centre.

For something more exotic, you can actually pay Amcorp Mall a visit, just a LRT (Putra Line) ride from KLCC, fast & convenient.  There are about 6 hifi shops there with quality stuffs from china to brands not heard b4 (maybe just me la, being just a noob ma)  certainly not to be missed & closes at around 8 to 8.30pm

Dont worry, most of the hifi shops here are all very friendly due to high competitions, so you will fell very welcome once entering their shop but price wise I think Sg is much cheaper than KL la but for the sake of listening only, what the heck, who cares....just rape their stuffs kaw kaw la  ;D

Oh ya, btw, my office is just opposite KL Convention Centre, if you want any directions to those hifi shops I mentioned earlier just let me know....i hv quite a long lunch break from 12.45 to 2.45pm...can hv a cuppa coffee too ;D

thank you so much for your assistance and offer of kopi, matkar! so nice to hear from our neighbour! if only this applies to our politics as well.

and thanks to Feisal and Pete for the advices as well! woah, i simply did not know that audio stuff are generally more ex in KL than Singapore. i had check prices in Aussie before and singapore is still much cheaper than Aussie, in which i felt very heartened despite all the price hikes in da motherland in recent years.

i really know nothing about KL. prolly will get a tourist map or Google Earth to see the locations of the places named. ;)

as for 'lim kopi', i think a bit tough coz i will be stuck at the exhibition/convention the whole day... and hence more concerned about the closing hours of the audio shops... kekekekeke

hard to enjoy the music as well, as the shops close around 8.30pm right? hardly had the time to window-shop and hear hear enough.

but nevermind, these are great advices! hope that they are useful to anyone who don't know KL well enough!

There's no centre like Adelphi for sure; they are scattered all over the place.  Price-wise, I do not think they are cheaper.  Hi-fi is still a luxury item; not a must-have like one of the other forummers mentioned.

So far, nothing beats ShenZhen and HK when it comes to cheap hi-fi....except maybe Harbeth, which I heard, if more ex there??

A pair of new wood-verneer Thiel CS 1.6 was going for the same price that I bought second hand in Singapore.

the most cockanathan thing just happens...

my colleagues pointed out to me that the venue of the convention/exhibition is at KL World Trade Centre, instead of the convention centre....

sorry for the misinformation.

and hence is there any good place to source and hear out audio stuff around that area?
