insomia Posted October 7, 2007 Author Posted October 7, 2007 Hi ew, Have you tried to play some real player files inside your PC through software using xbox360? Fook Lai hi, haven try that because most of my video's are in divx.. but i am sure it can work because basically tversity, transcode the video files real time and stream it to xbox..

I am asking as I have used tversity with PS3 before and I cant play real player files that time, it could because my pc power is too low for that, but it could also be tversity cant transcode real player files well. That's why I am asking whether you have tried it before or not, apparently you have not tried it yet, it is ok, if next time you happen to try it and success, do let me know as I am finding a way to play all my real player files using my pj. Fook Lai

Also will this distant post a problem, computer is in the study room & xbox is living room. for 15 feet, it all depends on whether they are any concrete wall in between your wirelss Access Point/Router and your xbox360... there is a simple network tuning function in xbox 360 to show you the signal strenght once is connected.... if strength is not enough, you can consider going LAN or add a wifi extender or buy a bigger antenna.. cheers
khewa Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 how does TVersity compares to XBMC ? I know XBMC doesn't support XBox360 yet, but soon...... Anyway interested in the user experience of these 2 media streamers. Been quite happy with XBMC so far, the upscaling is pretty good (SD to 720p) for movies. Saved a bundle from not buying upscaling capable DVD players.
insomia Posted October 8, 2007 Author Posted October 8, 2007 never try XBMC, so no comments... however i am now toying with Vista MCE and Xbox 360 extender... with several useful plugins to playback dvd movies titles with the ability for cataloging and display album arts right in the media center... very cool... but i am hit with a road block... my xbox 360 cant stream properly via MCE but no problem with TVersity... weird!!
desray Posted October 8, 2007 Posted October 8, 2007 For those who want a piece of mind on the streaming of media files...pls get yourself a Homeplug. This is currently the BEST SOLUTION besides WiFi connection to avoid those unsightly UTP cables lying all over the place. :)

insomia Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 desray.. which version of the homeplug are you using? i noticed they recently came out a 200mbps version... but i think its retailing for $249... is the 85mbps version good enough for HD streaming?
desray Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 I am using a 200mbps version of homeplug. The 85mbps will suffice for most HD streaming needs at this point in time. But I'll advise you to get the 200mbps model instead due to its auto-power saving feature. Meaning when there's no activity for a long period of time...the homeplug will go to standby mode - saving power to avoid over-heating. 85mbps doesn't have...and I have 'fried up' one of my 85mbps homeplug at home liaoz. The connectivity is steady and even works great for online gaming as well - in case you are interested.
insomia Posted October 9, 2007 Author Posted October 9, 2007 does that mean that i have to change my router as well since it does not support more than 100mbps? i am aware of the auto power off function which is important to prolong the life of the unit... my only concern is... any major difference in streaming? since the actual throughput is normally 70%?
