Guest tonytakitani Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 Folks, My PS3 is local set. Saw some Aussie blu-rays with region code A/B/C. The video format is PAL. Any idea can my PS3 play those blu-rays? Thanks. PAL and NTSC are only relevant to SD formats eg analog TV broadcasts and DVDs. As long as the Blu-ray disc is region free (which all Warner BD titles are) or multi-region, its playable in all BD players. Aussie blu-rays, like UK ones are reported to be mostly multi-region, as in this post: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=16160 The tricky bit is determining which of the titles are actually multi-region, because most retail sites do not give accurate info. You can see here that Bruce Almighty (HD DVD's own "Dirty Little Secret") is labelled region A/B/C, However Ezydvd indicates its as Region B: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/792584 But at least it does indicate that this version has multichannel PCM audio (the US HD DVD exclusive version is only DD+ )
lobster1624705763 Posted October 4, 2007 Author Posted October 4, 2007 Tonytakitani, Cool information, thank you. Found the following link of a Aussie forum: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?s=75c2db4f923293d140538cc9954a662b&showtopic=50447 It seems Air Force One, The Rock, Con Air are all-regions... ;D Cheers,

How come US version all not out yet? Btw, for Aussie version and US version of BD, is there any quality difference? Are they using same codec for exactly same movies? Any clues, Tonytakitani? htfreak Posted October 9, 2007 Posted October 9, 2007 Well I have briefly checked out the Aussie 2-Disc Spiderman 3 BD on the PS3 and it works fine on our local PS3. It's equipped with both Dolby Tru-HD and PCM 5.1 tracks in a 2:40:1 aspect ratio display. The prices that EzyDVD charge are much more expensive than retail and moreover the store that I got it from was running a Buy 2 get 1 Free promo. Hence, picked up Starship Troopers and Crimson Tide as well for no more than S$100. Will try to do a comparison between the Dolby Tru-HD track and the PCM Lossless track this weekend.
lobster1624705763 Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 Jeffong, You lucky man! ;D DVDcrave just sent my blu-ray to my home yesterday but I am now still stuck in China for work until this weekend. I think my 3 titles cost me A$100+ : Air Force 1, The Rock and Crimson Tide. Cheers,
lobster1624705763 Posted October 14, 2007 Author Posted October 14, 2007 briefly tested the following blu-rays: face off (Jap version) the rock (aussie version) crimson tide (aussie version) air force 1 (aussie version) My local ps3 played all without problem :D PQ wise, air force 1 is the weakest; however, still better than the normal and superbit DVDs. I would rank the rock the best, then crimson tide/face off tied at 2nd place. SQ wise, all have pcm 5.1, definite improvement over the DVDs. :D cheers,
