monstertruck Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 kekeke.... as above. the design and size look very attractive to me! but not too sure about the sound though (and i have hardly the time to test it out). so asking for any reviews if any. (if the sound is fantastic, then i will think that the selling price is worth it.) -john

monstertruck Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 was deciding between a pair of JB3 and Q Acoustics 1010. (won't reveal the final choice) the JB3 speakers definitely has better aesthetics with its piano gloss finish and the nice looking dome. sound-wise, kekeke, i had not auditioned them yet, but i'm no audiophile so i guess that i can't tell the difference much.
zapp1624705742 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 How would you know the difference even b4 you tried listening to them? ;D Audiophile or not - you will only know how you like the speakers after u heard them
monstertruck Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 How would you know the difference even b4 you tried listening to them? ;D Audiophile or not - you will only know how you like the speakers after u heard them ;D i think u misread. i'm trying to say that i'm not an audiophile, so even if i go audition them, i may not be able to tell the difference much anyway.
sty Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 IMHO, even u r an audiophile or not, u can still hear the difference if there is one. What I meant is that most speakers have different characteristics from 1 another n u can listen n see which one u like best. For me, sometimes the differences will also be measure by price. For example if I am listening to a pair of $200 speakers with a pair of $2000 speakers n I realise that the $2000 speakers r only a little more better than the $200 pair(in my own listening judgement) than I guess I wont invest in the $2000 pair. If I can get the "WOW" effect from the $2000 speakers that I am listening to, than I will definitely buy it if I can spare the cash. Should take some time to audition the speakers yourself rather than asking for peoples opinion cos what others listen may not be what u want. :)
hifiluv Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 sound is highly subjective and perceive differently by individuals audition is for whether the sound suit yr personal taste n if u like the look. for eg i realise i m drawn to a warm sound (but not laid back), so bright speakers (metallic drivers) do not appeal to me, yes they hv the speed and dynamics but long hr listen fatigue my ears, :P

Spunky Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 sound is highly subjective and perceive differently by individuals audition is for whether the sound suit yr personal taste n if u like the look. for eg i realise i m drawn to a warm sound (but not laid back), so bright speakers (metallic drivers) do not appeal to me, yes they hv the speed and dynamics but long hr listen fatigue my ears, :P furthermore, the diff electronic and environment also affected the perception of the sound from the spkrs. One more thing, it's a known fact that some retailers modded their audition spkrs for better sound, so what u heard may not be what u r getting!! ;D
hifiluv Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 yep, remembered went with a friend to audition a HT system, sounded fantastic in the shop but when set up a home, he said macham panchek. but good news is can still slowly fine tune sound (speaker position, cable change, etc), may not get 100% but at least can max out based on room setting, ;)
zapp1624705742 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 ;D i think u misread. i'm trying to say that i'm not an audiophile, so even if i go audition them, i may not be able to tell the difference much anyway. what i wanted to say is that u have not even heard them - how can u say that you think that there will not be much difference? You will be surprised how much "difference" there is after hearing :p

You will be surprised how much "difference" there is after hearing :p oh chey, muahhahahahha.... my bad. if there's some dealer bringing in both brands, even better if all famous brands for small bookshelf come together, i'll definitely go for an audition.
zapp1624705742 Posted October 5, 2007 Posted October 5, 2007 hmm i suspect for JB3 u need to go to someone's place to hear them. For Q acoustics i think adelphi got demo rite? Not sure which shop though
monstertruck Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 hmm i suspect for JB3 u need to go to someone's place to hear them. For Q acoustics i think adelphi got demo rite? Not sure which shop though keke, lukey from the memoir acoustics can offer me the audition, and the Q Acoustics is at the shop on level 1 adelphi... can't remember the shop name! arrrgh! but the variables will be different, like the setup used, room setup and size. so it will be the best of both worlds if both auditions can take place at the same place.
monstertruck Posted October 5, 2007 Author Posted October 5, 2007 bring your own amp haha, nah, it's ok. too much trouble for me with regards to transportation issue. and i'm pretty much decided on what i want. ;) thanks a million for the advice on testing out different speakers.

High efficiency with speed and dynamics, then add in tube magic = Audio Bliss :D
sdds Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Just bought this small jb3 speakers yesterday ,wasnt properly setup ,first impression this speakers sound great with vocals ,jazz .For this size and price ,is really a good buy cant critise the performance at this price range ,but need a subwoofer to partner with
MC_Hammer Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 oh! haha! of course there's a difference between a S$200 pair and a S$2000 one. Some speakers cost $2k when new but after a few years ...worth $200 secondhand...so sound got diffence or not ? ;D
mylica Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 Sounds very good for vocals, jazz. I am selling my set, as i am going to upgrade. Poison by this audiophile hobby recently :( . Cost a lot of money
sdds Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 AT $299 , no harm to try .rather than u spent a few thousand dollars and then get wrong one
monstertruck Posted November 21, 2007 Author Posted November 21, 2007 Some speakers cost $2k when new but after a few years ...worth $200 secondhand...so sound got diffence or not ? ;D i'll grab them if there's ever such lobang... ;D ;D who wouldn't want it?!? hahahahha
mylica Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 i'll grab them if there's ever such lobang... ;D ;D who wouldn't want it?!? hahahahha I want it as well
hifiluv Posted November 21, 2007 Posted November 21, 2007 ... if sell at 90% discount by then what is the age of the speakers... probably need reconing or new rubber lining and if u make any component change, the sound will change... eg i use to own a pair of the infamous Yamaha NS series giant bookshelfs with 10" bass drivers, when it was 10yrs old, one of the mid blow and the rubber linings for the woofers started to giving way... so i end up giving it away to a DIY friend. back to the JB3, at $299, its worth to buy, imho. :)
