Hi all, recently when I connect my Oppo DV-970HD to my Marantz PM7001 integrated stereo amp using the Oppo analog LR output, I found (when playing normal CD) slight but clear enough distorted sound especially on piano tune.

I connect the same way to my old Yamaha AV receiver but there’s no distortion at all.

Anyone out there has the same connection to an integrated amp but do not encounter this problem?

Any idea what’s wrong?  ???

Thanks!

Any idea what’s wrong?  :(

I’m sure a number of people own this player & have it connect (using analog LR) to a stereo integrated amp for normal CD playback.

I connect analog L/R from Oppo 970 to my Panasonic XR55. No problem at all. In fact, I find the analog connection better than both coaxial or optical connection in playback of music CDs.

Thanks for the reply. I'm confuse why it only happened to my stereo integrated amp. I have connected my old LD player to my stereo integrated amp, the sound is good, no distortion, so rule out my stereo integrated amp. I also rule out IC, speaker & speaker cable. I guess there’s a matching issue here between the Oppo & my stereo integrated amp.  :'(

Did you go through the setup menu settings in detail on the Oppo970?

I recall that there are a few modes you can set for the L/R output in the setup.

Try going through the connections again (I had the same problem with my setup before when I accidentally created a closed loop between my integrated amp and AV amp). You can unplug all connections an leave only the L/R from your Oppo to your amp and see if the problem is still there. You can also try using other input (eg. Aux, Video, Tape etc.) on your amp to see if it helps.

Hope you can resolve your problem  :)

Bro are you using HDMI to your display?

In order to use analog please go to the set up page and set HDMI to off.

The HDMI is all along set to NO.

I'll try seamonkey suggestion. This is b'cos i'm connecting my Oppo's digital & 5.1 output to my AV receiver while the mixed analog LR is connected to my stereo integrated amp. I'm trying to have Hi-Fi & HT using the same player.

Hi seamonkey,

Don't mind u share with me your current connection? Oppo to amp & AV amp? So i believe your distorted sound from yr Oppo is resolved? What amp are u using?

Thanks!

My current connection is.

Oppo (HDMI) -> TV

Oppo (Optical) -> AV Amp

Oppo (Coaxial) -> AV Amp

Oppo (L/R Analog) -> Int Amp

Int Amp (Tape Out) - AV Amp (CD in)

I used to loop the AV amp's output back to the int amp and this cause the distortion you describe if I forget to switch the input and output selector on the int amp correctly (causing a signal loop).

For you to confirm that the L/R output of your oppo is not the source of the problem, you should try a clean connection from it to the amp+speaker first (with all other inputs/outputs dis-connected).

I have not been using the Oppo for DVD watching for quite a while. I don't have code 2 DVD but i believe code 3 DVD (so are code 1 DVD) are playing fine on my Oppo.

read the 970 thread

ya read it liao, and it says its multi region.

But when I put in my code 3 DVD, it says wrong region in the display. Need to do any setting to break the region lock, if there's any?

Hi Assys1606,

Maybe this will help u click on the link

Cheers

Thanks for the link but i'm not using HDMI connection at the moment. I just want to use the Oppo as a CD player but found strange light distorted sound (on both speakers) when i connect (using analog LR) it to the stereo amp.

Oppo web has replied to me saying it could be impedance (input & output) mis-match issue.
