Thing is despite JVC claiming that they can have a very high static contrast ratio w/o dynamic iris, the ANSI contrast rating (which ironically measures contrast on a static image), is actually lower with the RS1/HD1.

I don't know if this will be addressed in the RS2

Itchy already Doggie? ;)

I will be sticking with my JVC for at least 2 years. I expect that means another lamp for me.

But that's what you said when you still have your Mits HC5000 almost a few months ago? ;D

The HD1 is already a huge step up for me. I was just a little curious why ANSI contrast isn't as high as you'd expect from a non DI, 15k:1 native contrast display.

ps Clarence told me he's bringing in Goo screen paint. That might be the secret recipe to get a nice matching screen for the HD1 w/o the wife realizing ;)

But I dunno how much I'll need to paint the whole bloody wall!!

haha

Well I really wanted the JVC, but couldn't justify the price. The price changed, with Sammy's demo unit becoming available :).  Now I've got what I want, this will be a keeper!

Courtesy of louco's generosity, I had an invaluable opportunity to witness the difference between HC5000 and HD-1.

Though the colors from the HD-1 seemed very slightly muted and marginally less "sharp" (on some scenes) than the Mits.. the black-levels on the LCoS was really impressive. If I only I could get the HD-1 at that basement bargain price pt.. :(

Oh.. I would like to add that the OS fixed screen louco has looked absolutely gorgeous. It could well be on the top of my shopping list if there isn't a new short-throw 1080p PJ available by end of this year.

The colours can be adjusted, it's just what Sanjay and Sammy had set with their fiddling. I haven't bothered changing them yet. I'll wait till I move to my new place and then set up everything to my liking.

The component inputs have not been adjusted and the colours are WAY too in your face.

HT102 brought his PS3 over and we used the Pirates of the Carribean as test material. Honestly in bright scenes there is not much difference between the Mits and the JVC, even in some mixed scenes with dark details we couldn't really tell the difference. However, in the dark scenes, like in the jail with candle light, there is a HUGE difference. That is what I paid for ;)

Simply coz there still is no DLP that is short throw enough. Sighz....

There is, the new Marantz VP-15S1. I believe a couple of fellow forumers have ordered them.

I am not sure if it is worth the premium of $15k though..  ;D

Its worth $15k today........ how much will it be worth on the 2nd hand market next time when LCDs and LCOSs of today are boasting >4000:1 native CR?

Not so attractive to buy that marantz if taking long term depreciation into consideration.

ahem..... as a interesting side note, even a Honda car  has a yearly depreciation less than the Marantz pj...... different strokes for different folks.  :)

I heard it should be cheaper than that price but still a lot of money. Anyway, the RS2 are released to complement the current RS1 and the price are set around USD8k, so I guess it should be around the price as Marantz since the JVC agent here has the habit to set the price as MSRP.

This is almost the same case with CRT pjs. High on/off CR, but low ANSI CR.

Should view it first before passing judgement..... both on/off and ANSI CR are important, but there is an optimal balance between the 2. I'm not sure whats the optimal balance, but 30k:1 should make the other projector technologies sit-up and listen.

I just received the Marantz VP-15S1 yesterday with another good fren. Price is definitely not $15k but in the $13k plus region. I have seen the jvc in action and in MY opinion, there is no contest.

With the dual iris in action, pq is damn contrasting and punchy. And this pj is bright even in my hall setting. Dithering is there but at my viewing distance, it is no biggie. Outputting 1080p from onkyo 875 to the pj. Bypass the gennum.

Played the bd movie Descent and the dark scenes are very good.

Agree with Muscular. Just witness the Marantz's glorious video performance coupled with the heart-stopping 7.7 channel surround sound experience at Jason's place. No joke.. I was literally surrounded by 7 x SVS 12" Ultra/Plus subs.  ;D

The 37" LCD should worth around $1.5k.. so this is not exactly a good news, isn't it?  ???
