Problem with optical out using windows media player..

Featured Replies

hi guys, need your help and assistance on this. I have a Shuttle XPC (win vista ultimate OS) in the living room connected to my AVR and TV via optical out (to the AVR) and the usual audio out (to the TV).

With the optical out, I could hear sound from all my 5.1 speakers when I do a test in the Properties section. Usual windows sound like login, exit etc can be heard as well. However, when I play music with windows media 11 nothing is heard from the speakers via the optical out. I could still get music via the normal audio out though to the TV and from there connect it to my AVR, but it's all analog...

Tried looking thru the options in the media player but couldn't find anything relevant. Hope u guys out there could shed some light... thanks...  ;)

why don't you try other softwares first?

I have similar problem. My setup Shuttle XPC, Creative X-Fi sound card, SPDIF cable to Teac HT. Everytime when I startup the Shuttle, there is no sound out from Creative X-Fi SPDIF, I would need to go in the Creative desktop icon, then change the mode (eg from Entertainment mode to Gaming mode), then the sound will be ok. I believe the Creative card has no problem (I have 2 cards and the other one I used in Dell desktop). I am still trying to pinpoint where in the Shuttle XPC that causing the sound issue.
