Sharp is coming out with 4 series D53/A53M/A63M/A83M.

My Speculations

D53 (37" & 32") is a 1366x768 direct replacement to BX-6 and AX-5 (might not be 100Hz but inclusion of high dynamic contrast, as it is model name starts with D while the rest is A...)

A53 (42"/37"/32") is a 1366x768 similar to PX5 with 100/120Hz conversion. Saw them at comex recently. Got the 42", delivering tomorrow...

A63 (46"/42" ) could be Full HD 1080P with 100Hz since smallest size starts from 42" , similar to  current P7/G7 series.

A83 (52"/46"/42") same as A63M except could be with built-in HD tuner...aka Samsung M81.

Took delivery of my Sharp LC-42A53M last evening.

First Impression

1. Looks well built whole lacquer black.

2. Inputs are all found on the panel's right side recess

3. Remote sensor is also on the right side, so point remote control more to right.

4. Remote is plasticy.

Pros

100/120Hz

Good Black

Support native 24fps.

Digital optical audio o/p

Audyssey Surround

Cons

2 x HDMI 1080i ONLY

HDMI "handshake" problem, no audio out for my Nachus HDMI DVD player...h/w my Humax HD STB able to.

Nice. How the PQ ? any calibration u done to the tv? Does the panel made in japan like previous aquos tv?

.

No obvious dead or bright yet. No serious testing yet. Maybe during the weekends. Free off-the-air SD TV is no good. Upscaled DVD is very good.

Made in  Malaysia. But the panel should come from Japan right?  ;)

I wonder my starhub digital STB PQ will look acceptable on the tv,  ???

U mean ur tv can't output ur dvd player sound?

Yup, i was told the panel is made from japan but assemble in malaysia.

Digital STB should do better, play safe get a HD STB lo.

This LCD is particular with certain brand's HDMI implementation. Using the same HDMI cable, Humax HD STB got sound but Nachus HDMI player no sound from TV.

Guess assembled in Malaysia is better than having Taiwanese LCD panel that made from Taiwan...

Yes. It does but not as good as native support.

24Hz x 5 = 120Hz

Confirm Sharp cannot support native 24fps mode.

Film Mode: when set to On the film mode automatically detects, analyzes, and converts a film source (24 fps) to video (30 fps) using 3-2 Pull-down

24 + 6 = 30 (x 4 Fine Motion Advanced optional) = 120Hz

Is there an option for u to turn on/off the Fine Motion Advanced mode? Any major diff when watching movie with the Fine Motion Advanced turn on/off?

How the tv for u so far? PQ wise been good?

Yes. Fine Motion Advanced can be turned off, so can Film mode. I hoping  a 1080i/24p bluray from PS3 can be detected without film mode on and interpolated by Fine Motion Advanced to 120Hz (5:5 pulldown). Now to get a PS3....any offers?

My place (Punggol) cannot received Mediacorp HD5 using Humax HD STB....

The TV is rated 4ms so not much difference w/o Fine motion advanced on SD TV. But could be useful in HD....

Picture wise NOT good with SD TV lots of noise evewn with DNR on high. Upscaled DVD is good, however bandings can be seen when playing The Incredibles (Jack-Jack attack).

Hmm, i read up on some forum that the banding issue mostly lies on bigger screen, 46" and above, didnt know 42" could be affected, banding bad for u? other dvd or tv program, banding can be seen? maybe u can test in on a light blue screen, like the input chn without any video source.

Have u try watching any sports? i guess the Fine motion advanced (100/120hz) would be more useful here. I getting my set on this coming weekend.
