khewa Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 am considering the Marantz SR4001, this does not have the Lip Synch feature, which the SR5001 has. anyone can advise if the lip synch feature is a must in a modern HT environment ? is it a die die must have feature ? if so, then must cough up the extra cash for the SR5001 model, else can just go for the SR4001.
SiriuslyCold Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 its not a die-die must have - or the 4001 would have it, else no one would buy - im just following the logic here (assuming that feature decisions made by AVR manufacturers follow any kind of logic). A lot of receivers do not have lipsynch however if you currently experience lip desynch with any of your sources then it might be a good idea to have it

My actual intent was to find out how many people there that has sources that absolutely requires lip sync feature and what these sources are, so that I can judge if I would belong to that group of people.
SiriuslyCold Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 I think people I've seen with lip sync problems are cable subscribers in the US, although some time ago StarWorld has this problem briefly, but it was just one channel on Starhub
karlie Posted September 2, 2007 Posted September 2, 2007 Everyone is subject to lipsync issue because the problem is linked to how much processing is done on the video, in the decode, in the display and in between. The problem is that for each program the function must be easy enough to access as the delay is likely to change for each program source.

I've never experienced this issue before, either with my old Kenwood or present Pioneer. Remember there used to be the odd tv show when I have experienced it but that was so long ago...Is it important in AVR? Not to me I dont think.
karlie Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Wow... There is not one program/source where I don't have the issue of the audio being ahead of the video; but then I read on lips a lot when I watch/listen to a program.
SiriuslyCold Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 now you've made me look *grr* ;D I wonder how many people are - I don't have a problem with DVDs or cable (at least something that would irritate me enough to look for an AVR with lip sync)
dbchoong Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 Never had any problems with lip sync on any source for me. My current AVR doesn't have lip sync feature and last time when I had AVRs with the feature - also never needed to use it - so IMO, not a die-die must have feature (for me). :)
cn9601 Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 now DVD HDMI (video) is direct to Plasma TV and audio is via optical digital to AVR (well, my AVR is old version without HDMI interface). Touch wood, so far I could match the lip movmt with my 5.1ch ;D
