philus1624705871 Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 Hi, I'm trying to find out if there are owners of the Orbaudio sat speakers/sub in S'pore? www.orbaudio.com Saw a tread not too long ago that some are thinking of ordering it from US. http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=44563.0 Would appreciate if can share the experience, especially the sound signature compared to AG (much more expensive) as well as usual box sat spkrs. Thanks.
SiriuslyCold Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 someone on here owns a set but he hardly ever posts anymore (maybe he might chime in if he sees this thread). Clarity was there - I heard it briefly after being just set up and not calibrated. but not after being broken in (Panasonic XR55 takes some time as well). IIRC, some people on AVS are using the same combo quite happily.
orbcom Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Bought one set in mar, MOD 2. one of them was faulty and they send the replacement immediately within 7 days. SQ close to AG, almost 90%, co-founder of AG. Nice setup for small space in HDB, WAF high, modern look, blend in with setting. ;D
ridz Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 So far the Orb sounds good to my ears. I was basically looking for a small size speakers that is acceptable to the missus and a bit like Bose size. So far very happy with sound (inexperienced listener). This is my first HT system and I must say for the price I think its worth it. ;D
khewa Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 an alternative is Morel speakers, saw a shop in Adelphi selling these. the Soundspot LI-1 MK II or SL-1 MKII are quite similar in appearance to the Orb speakers. not sure about the SQ, but I'm sure it's good. Had a chance to hold it, pretty heavy, sure sign of a good speaker.
philus1624705871 Posted September 2, 2007 Author Posted September 2, 2007 Thanks guys for the inputs. Did you purchase the sub as well or you bought one locally? Which leads to my next qn: which sub is a good match? I enquire from them about shipping cost on the complete People's Choice system and is quoted US$185. Still thinking as the shipping cost is not a small amount. Was considering just to get the sats and source for the sub locally... rational being sub is heavier and loaded with electronics, so any problems, shipment will be a hassle. I'm looking at Definitive Tech Pro1000/800 as well, tho' looks/size wise can't beat the Orb. But at least can audition. Music is as important to me as HT, so the system neeeds to be musical.
philus1624705871 Posted September 2, 2007 Author Posted September 2, 2007 khewa, thanks for the lead on Morel, will check it out.
ridz Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I purchased the Orb with the Sub. Managed to save a lot on shipping as a friend was in states and he pick it up for me. US$9.00. The Subwoofer weight quite a lot in comparison to the speakers. The weight is enough to turn my friend off from buying anything resembling speakers for me again :( :(
pongz Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 I'm pairing it with a velodyne. You can email Ethan about the recommended subs and placement etc. Had it since 2005. Works like a charm.
philus1624705871 Posted September 5, 2007 Author Posted September 5, 2007 Hi pongz, mind if I ask which Velodyne model you're using? Velodyne subs are quite expensive. I looked around for subs that have high variable crossover setting (up to 150hz and beyond), not many around.
orbcom Posted September 6, 2007 Posted September 6, 2007 Matching with CHT 10 in the living room of 5rm HDB. Decent enough to project an acceptable standard. Music and movie is balance, rich and accurate. IMO, its all on personal preference, of cos the WAF must be consider and if size matter.
