redryder Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 I’ve never been to any major IT exhibition before, scared of the crowds. This Comex I’ll go because I need a new printer. Any recommendations for parking near Suntec? I don’t think I want to lug a laser printer on the MRT, and I guess the queues for taxis will be crazy long as well. I’m planning to take leave and go at 1200hrs on the first day.

It's not so bad in the morning and early afternoon; it gets insane in the evening, I guess when everyone else finishes work and comes here. So if you're taking leave, I think it's still all right to drive here; worst case park at Millenia Walk, or Marina Square, if Suntec is already full, although I don't think it will be full at 12. But it will be later in the afternoon.

redryder Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 Sigh..unfortunately Comex only open at 1200hrs. If I could go in the morning, then I can just take 1/2 day leave. Now looks like got to take full day leave.
SiriuslyCold Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 take a whole day... surely you want to go back and get into a printing frenzy ;D
armoury Posted August 27, 2007 Posted August 27, 2007 maybe not, my last 2 experience Suntec is full by 1200hrs especially those making use of lunch hour, and before 1200hrs no need to pay Charlie BravoD. Hmmm, I guess I'm seeing it from the point of view of a Suntec tenant, where season parking is in B2 which is exclusive to season parkers until 5pm. So it only gets nutso for us after 5 when B2 is opened up to everybody. But yeah, leaving Suntec in the evening when a big show is on can be really really crazy.
koma Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 some pricelist here http://imagehost.yourfirstcreditcard.com/v/comex07/
cracker Posted August 30, 2007 Posted August 30, 2007 having been to all these PC show in the past decade.. one thing really puzzle me especially during the last few yrs.... why during every show or fair ( there are 4 per year) there are always scores of pple buying printers ? and I am not talking abt those small type...it is those in bulky box tied to a trolley.. Many a time...I was either hit by them or had they ran over my foot.. Do they need to change printer very often or they need more than 1 printer at home ? With printer cartridges almost the same price as a printer...I am too considering changing printer instead of buying cartridges...
redryder Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I bought a printer at comex yesterday. My 3 yr old inkjet needed repairs, so I decided to junk it instead and buy a laser printer.

This makes more sense when you consider that it is also expensive to repair printers outside of warranty period. Personally have given up on inkjets for my purposes. Even with original carts, the heads used to jam up on me. While they offer the best PQ for photos, for my purposes, I find a color laser much cheaper to operate.
louco73 Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Personally have given up on inkjets for my purposes. Even with original carts, the heads used to jam up on me. While they offer the best PQ for photos, for my purposes, I find a color laser much cheaper to operate. I have friends who have endless problems with inkjet printers. I have also found that unless you print regularly they are a waste of money, with the inks drying up and problems with the print heads. I have come to the conclusion that laser printers are much better options for those of us that do not print that often. Monochrome lasers are very cheap now and should last for a long time before you need more toner. If you need a colour print out or photo, take it to a professional printer. In the long run you'll probably save money. I'll be checking out the lasers tonight ;). Edit: spelling :)
kzone Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 wat's most vfm laser printer at comex now? My inkjet also ran out of inks, almost a hundred bucks just to replace the catridges.. things were so much simpler when they had only 2 catridge per printer...
ridz Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Was at the comex yesterday afternoon. take me 20 mins to reach B2 carpark. I think the best lot will be those near the Blue Nightingale lot. The lift stop beside the entrance of the Hall. Anyway was looking at AcerLaptop Travelmate 4720 and was surprised the price was the same as at SLS. If you are looking for CompaqPresario Laptop try and get a HP staff to get for you. Their Staff price is cheaper by $500 compare to Comex. (V3508tu series). Happy hunting ;D
InnocentBlood Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 for those who have been there, any ipod promos or not?
redryder Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 I went to Suntec at 11:50am yesterday, just before noon. The queue to enter the carparks stretched until the ECP. Eventually I parked at Millenia Walk and walked across. Spent about 1 hr comparing all the different brands of laser printers and eventually settled for the Fuji-xerox 3-in-1. Best deal I could find, as this is the only brand to give a free toner cartridge (worth $123). The printer costs $305, so If you minus the price of the toner the effective cost is $182. The other brands average around $250 - $450 (Canon!), and none of them give free toner. Other specifications like print speed and scanning dpi didn't really matter to me, as this is for home use.
redryder Posted August 31, 2007 Posted August 31, 2007 Also, if you are shopping for memory cards, harddisks and thumbdrives, it pays to look around before buying. Prices can vary from as much as $10, e.g. for my Toshiba 4GB SD card. For thumbdrives, I also saw prices ranging from $30 (2GB Sandisk micro) to $35.

Must say, it has indeed been somewhat crazy around here. The works at the Nicholl Highway/Bras Basah Rd-Raffles Boulevard junction make it pretty bad every morning to begin with, and the added volume of Comex visitors from 12 onwards makes it well-nigh impassable. I was out of office yesterday morning, got back just after 12, and it was impossible to turn into the Convention Centre's taxi-stand driveway. I went the long way around past Millenia Walk to enter the carpark at the Carrefour side, only to find the right-turn blocked off and I had to loop around the fountain to get to the correct side of the road. Upon reaching, the security guards were turning casual parkers away, and I got through only because I'm a season parker. I also noticed the Millenia Walk carpark was already full. So anyone who plans on visiting, please be forewarned...
dannyhgt Posted September 1, 2007 Posted September 1, 2007 I am "braving" the crowd tomorrow. Anyone has seen the show with a good notebook computer deal to recommend? Just need a simple one for wifey to use at home. She doesn't want a desktop anymore..
