wolverex Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Hi, There are a lot of shops now a days carrying China pressed CDs . Today i bought an $8 China-pressed Sarah McLachlan album entitled "Surfacing". $8 for 2 CDs wow, i thought. But the quality was VERY bad, all the tracks are distorted very badly. At this point in time i'm not sure if the recording has an issue or if it's really because it's made in China? Anyone have similar issues with China CDs?
khakis359 Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Bring back n change! n test d same cd again ::)
DanDon Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 My advise is to buy CDs from those shops specialised in selling CDs and have audio equipment for you to try before buying. I own 50 over China pressed DSD CDs and none of them have distortion issue.
Soundbyte_audio Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 Wolverex, I bought the same CD :( . I believe it is converted from MP3, and you are right it is very bad recorded. After that I bought the US press version.... it way better. As a rule of thumb, I would suggest not to buy it without testing if you could and if it is an english title I would suggest to buy from the the country of origin. Cheers. tinytok Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 china CD only buy those with DSD recordings... :D
liuhao Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 china CD only buy those with DSD recordings... :D exactly! and those are even better than US/EU pressed.
cn9601 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 in fact, if u look around at some HK compilations - eg. Warner, Cinepoly......there is a small print DSD. I agree MIC CD keep CLOSE to DSD. Stay away from those proclaiming XRCD, XRCD2, blah-blah. oredi kana conned for 5 discs - somewhere in last few tracks, starting skipping or hang or emitting high-pitch. Thought it turns into test CD for generating Pink Noise lol :o
Jose Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Sorry but I beg to differ. For China audiophile vocal artists, I do not doubt that their recording is good. But on what basis are you making this comparison? 1) Are you comparing between China audiophile cds and US/EU pop cds? Or 2) Are you comparing the same pop cds that are pressed in different countries? For 1), it is definitely not a fair comparison. Audiophile and pop cds are mastered very differently. you should compare a China audiophile standard cd to US audiophile standard cd. For 2), I do not agree at all. For pop albums, the pressing from the country where the singer came from sounds the best. That is, US for most English albums, HK/Taiwan for Chinese albums. I have not heard a MIC pop cd that surpasses the same title manufactured by US/HK/Taiwan. exactly! and those are even better than US/EU pressed.
cn9601 Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 to me, the concern is those MIC CDs that proclaimed high quality are pressed from 'so-called' high tech XRCD / XRCD2 / XRCD24, and these are selling at $5-$10. Normally, I understand tat such authentic ones should be from be Japan, selling at > $30. Guess it is like whether you prefer Region 1 Hollywood DVD or Region 3 / Region 6 DVDs of the same Hollywood titles. Me, I 'try my best' to buy Region 1, though more expensive. 8)
Guest francis woo Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 Personally, I find those MIC DSD cds very good in my system. Other than these DSD cds, you are taking a big risk........... :)
f_spider Posted August 20, 2007 Posted August 20, 2007 I find MIC cds r juz like China mei mei .......... Only Gd to look at ;D

Just look out for tell tale signs, esp the price! ;D Bought one DSD MIC CD from the shop above CK, selling for $8 only. But highly suspected it is a "friendly" version. The sound is harsh and grainy. The printing also a little bit blurry. I went back and check out the Basso (also selling @ $8), the printing is fuzzy and have slight color run compare to the original which I bought couple years ago. Possible those are "friendly" version?
batdance Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 even lpcd45, xrcd also got friendly version, but some is so good u cant tell the difference by the packaging alone. Only checking the CD can tell.

For audiophile stuff, better to buy from reliable source. So far, cheapest source for such exotic stuff is at Audiophile - NDV & Roxy. Pls tell me if there's other place tat u know. Tks. :D

Mr. Big Posted September 3, 2007 Posted September 3, 2007 For bros who are interested, there's a shop in Bangkok who retails mainly MIC audiophile CDs (all genres). Bought 4 last Thursday - Susan Wong, Noon, one LPCD33 demo disc, plus another test CD. All at THB280 each (about SGD12.50). Shop is named Conductor and located in Fortune Town (a mini version of our Sim Lim Square; the other being Pantip Plaza in heart of town).
