menthol28 Posted August 16, 2007 Posted August 16, 2007 i've got my yammy rxv 659 in a impulsive buy due to its platinum look and matching free ipod dock without even planning what 5.1 speakers to get at that point of time, thinking that speakers will be a easy buy. after a few days of auditioning at aldephi, i finally settled for wharferdale evo2 40 in piano black for my main and matching center and deftech bi-polar as surrounds and velodyne 10inch as sub. as i've yet to shift into my new house and cant really test the set-up now. do you guys think the yammy 659 is slightly mis-match with the speakers ? should i get better avr? :-\
synthesis1624705793 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Ya, change everything! ;D Seriously, though, you need to set up properly and you can judge yourself. ;)
dmateo Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 why don't you do this. Go back to the speaker / AV shop and auditioned the pair. After that try to switch the AVR with other AVR that you have in mind. Do this for all AVR you wanted to hear and then pick one that you like the most.
Melvinho77 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Based on your items.. the shop must be KEC right?

Hey dude. :D Before you jump to conclusions I think you should bring your amp down and try it at the place. Besides you've heard the 659 with wharf bookshelves before and they were pretty all right right? From what I've heard the 659 has more power than the 661 or the onkyo 605 so if you wanted to change the amp, you'd need to significantly increase your budget. And I've tried wharf floorstanders with the yamaha amp before, sounds fine to me. :)
Phil1624705739 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Just settle down with what you have and give it a little time to run in. I made the big mistake of spending more than a grand to fix my setup which now sounds way better than its initial days. Phil
petetherock Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 Bro If you can swop it and you tell us your budget, then more recommendations will come, eg the Onyko 875 and Marantz Sr 8001 would be my current price point markers right now
cn9601 Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 for the past 3 weeks, hav been auditioning HT wif my frien. initally Yummy 661 with Wafe Diamond 9 set, with Denon 1730 and Marantz 5001. den after a series of ear-deafening audition and concussion, the latest and likely set up is Yummy 661 with Mission E3 set, Denon 1930 and mayb Cyrus 6. in fact, juz came back from KEC. will finalise the HT next week, oso audition another CD play Creek based on budget $600-$1000. Oso Marantz AV 6001. I feel my frien is OVER spending. keep reminding him to chk his budget. but bottom line is YOU MUST HEAR IT and LIKE IT. Den for tat 10%-20% better AQ/SQ, will u wan to pay tat extra >$1000. Every AVR, CD, DVD, spkrs, cables...blah-blah will have their characteristic. Oso yr preference. my frien likely to indulge in more audio (audio oso spilt into volcal & insturmental) den video (movie). mayb due to space constraint, ure incline to have all-in-1 AV-HT system allowing u to watch n play good audio. to me for the modest price package Yammy 661 sounds OK. so mayb yr Yammy 659 is OK for the next 2-3 yrs. den u could save the money can spree on good spkrs, dvd, or Cd....blah-blah. I think u need to set a budget, den HEAR and SEE. careful though, u need to oso budget how much u willing to stretch. my frien has stretched from 3000 to now mayb 7000!!! If he can afford IT, and he LIKE it, den wat can I say. Juz my opinion.
menthol28 Posted August 17, 2007 Author Posted August 17, 2007 Based on your items.. the shop must be KEC right? not all items are kec....wharferdale evo2 series they dun carry
menthol28 Posted August 18, 2007 Author Posted August 18, 2007 maybe i should just sit back and try the current set up for few months or so and refrain from burning my pocket anymore..... its just a passing thought that since i've upped my budget and spent a considerable amt on the speakers liao, i might as well spend abit more to get a well suited or better avr.....maybe JUST maybe ;D

Just avoid folks like Jag, Jason, Jonlee and etc etc. You will get that upgrade itch once you sampled their setup. Phil
vink Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 maybe i should just sit back and try the current set up for few months or so and refrain from burning my pocket anymore. Way to go. Whether you intend to upgrade now or 6 months later, the amount you need to top up should not differ by much. So enjoy while its available. ;D
ALERT1624705860 Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Since you've already bought all your stuff. Then just stay with it. Unless you are really willing to loose $$ on your current setup and spend more $$ on another model.
