Dear all,

I am searching for a pair of speakers that is good for so call "human voice" listening.

Is there any good speakers that you can recommed?

I listen to music like Caiqin, Tereasa Deng...and mostly vocal.

Or is it better to custom made one specially for this purpose?

Brands like Quad, Mission ,KEF..are they so call HT speakers? Correct me if I am wrong.

no speaker brands start out as "HT speakers" IF there ever was such a thing. Its true most of Wharfedale and the brands sold nowadays are in the HT area but good speakers are good speakers no matter where they are used.

I've read that the LS3/5a or Harbeths are good for vocals... you might want to ask around for an audition

Thanks, I will give "chowbotak" a pm see if it still avail.

Do you happen to know where I can audit these speakers locally?

And what is the price expected?

All old LS3/5a are real vintage and has long crease production. The reissue is still not as good as the old ones. So audition is impossible in shops, unless bros here who owns LS3/5a can offer your an invitation. I believe chowbotak will be glad to show you it's power if it still available.

For Harbeth HL-P3ES-2, check with Jimmy from CD Acoustic. Since it quite small to carry and if you don't mind the trouble, it cheaper in KL and Hong Kong.

LS35a seriously lack bass. Most ppl will think they need a sub. Unless they are only used for listening to news broadcasts  ;D

Hi

if you are into vocals, you may also want to check out spendors.  Look for letchmi from electrades audio for an audition.  She is a wonderful lady and will provide you with good advice.

If you are thinking of getting the Harbeth's P3-es2, you need a real powerful amp. I've since changed couple of amps just to get the most bass out of my P3. Its bass is clean, full sounding and you won't believe what you've heard. Vocal is the trademark of speakers like Harberth, Spendor, LS3/5 etc. Audit as many as speakers as possible and find out which do you like most.

Hi Jens,

What is the minimal rating amp to bring the potential out of these speakers.

Does that means that I can only relie on Solid state amps? And stay away from below 15W or less tube amps?

You mentioned that the "Bass" is good. However, earlier thread mentioned that the LS3/5a is a speaker without much bass.

When playing music like "greatest basso" cd. Does it require muc bass or low freq?

Specifications of Harbeth HL P3ES-2

Transducer system

Frequency response 75Hz - 20kHz ± 3dB free space, 1m with grille on with smooth off axis response

Impedance 4-6 ohms

Amplifier suggestion 25W +

Power handling 50W programme

Connector Four 4mm gold-plated binding posts (biwireable)

Dimensions

(h x w x d) 305 x 188 x 198mm

As you can see, P3es2 has only frequency response of 75Hz - 20kHz. In order to bring out the best in them, you need lots of juice from your amp. I've tried playing them with 400watts of digital amp but it seems like it don't produce the clean bass compare to my diva's blue sky 50watts power amp. You can forget about those less than 40watts tube amp. Btw, I'm refering to my P3 where bass is concern. LS3/5 can hardly match it. Period.

Sorry, Goldberg...I am not in a liberty to divulge the price.  Not fair to the local distributor and the seller.

If going for cheap pair, try a MA RS6 matched with china-made full tube amp. very nice.

That's the one I have too!! Nice. nice... bought it in Shanghai in 2002 for Rmb 2,800. I did something really stupid.. the tweeter came with a protective sticker, I didn't pull it off until 1 year later. and all the while, i was wondering why the high freq so muffled.. silly.. when i eventually discovered that and pull it off, man, its like a veil was remove infront of my eyes!!

How much does it cost in singapore?

You can inquire about the Aurums at Jay Audio....67550646.  The pricing is quite high though.
