Modify Fix Power Cord on my DVDR

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I am thinking of changing/ modifying the fixed power cord on my toshiba D-R265S DVDR to those detachable type so i can play around with different power cord. may i know where i can do that? i heard of memory lane at aldelphi. there got do such modification? roughly how much will be the cost? pls kindly advice.

Thank you very much!

Try out those from LHS first especially those thicker cords. It does make a difference from OEM power cord.

Bro, I think what maxngck trying to say that his dvdp is fixed powercord one. He need to first modify it to an IEC connector. After that, then he can start with your recommendation of LHS made cords.  ;)

maxngck, just adding an IEC connector alone is not difficult and costs very low. I'm not sure who willing to mod this alone. You can check with memory lane though.  The last time i send my dvdp for clock mod plus analogue stage mod by EAM, the iec is done foc.

For memory lane, I gotta check echoloft, but the site is down for the moment leh.

How about DIY but if not than

open up the DVDP to check is there a place for putting a IEC connector before you bring it down to the shop.

hi!

sori har. 1 more question. Do u guys think that modding to iec connector and play around with power cord can improve the SQ? coz currently dun intend to spend $ on cdp yet. and my console cant fit in anymore. so hv to think of a way to optimize the SQ.

No need to change the whole power cord if it's fixed, just changing the outlet and the end connector may suffice.

Check out such tweaking on satellite dishes (in S'pore case would be equivalent to your MIO/Starhub digital box) at

http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/tweaks/messages/14/148002.html

Quite easy to change the other plug instead of the IEC

Actually I've this question in echoloft before but didn't get much response... I have a Pioneer dvdp 515 lying around. Has some reading problem and some squeaking sound. But the SQ is not bad. I would like to tweak it a little to improve its SQ. PQ is not important or even necessary. Is it worth the expense? This is just a spare set lying around...

Actually, you can also get a cheap outboard DAC and run a digital coxial cable from your DVDP to this outboard DAC. Cheap ones are ZhaoLu 3.0, the Lite AH, Monica2 and Great March. The sound will take a leap forward if your DVDP correctly implement the coxial output.

hi!

mayb u can see my system in the equipment list (under DEF) and u can see that i got no more room for anymore external thing, so i think changing the PC will bring it 1 step forward. wat do u think?

If I were you I would leave the powercord alone.

From what you have, move your speaker to the front corner of your console. You'll likely get better imaging/soundstaging.

hi!

do u heard differences after modding the clock? which clock did u choose and how much will it cost? me itchy oso liao leh. ;D

If you have been playing with Oyaide/Furutech/Wattgate plugs, you will find that the plugs/outlets makes as much an impact as the power cord. A good power cord with poor loose connectors will not work at all.

Methinks half of the power cord performance is compromised by lousy connectors.

i couldnt agree more. it would be a huge leap forward more than any iec mod, expensive power cord/connector can do. for the dvd players of this price-point :)

but then again you are not using it with a dedicated two channel amp ???

Definitely there are differences before and after. But whether you like the changes is another story la hehe. Just like the powercord issue, people can argue until cow come home. Some people insist that the stock cord is the best.  For me, I like the sound after the clock mod.  The information and pricing of the clock mods can be found in the link which I pasted in my last posts please.  ;)

As for powercords, after recent trials with marinco, wattgates, AET, Furutech cuprum copper type, and Oyaide C046.  I have to agree with Hotbird that the plugs plays an important part(at least in my system).  ;)

hi!

thank you all for the feedback and response ;D

currently still no budget and enuf room for serous stereo enjoyment. I can only optimize what i hv now and if later got budget then will look into more serious stuff. so i hope u guys can understand :-[ so u dun see me playing wif exp stuff. only very normal thingy :-[

If I'm not wrong, the ZhaoLu DAC cost around $350. Cheaper at around $200 if you get 2nd hand. Don't think it's ex. A good, wel-made coaxial digital cable is around $70.
