technobagus Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 As per titled, would appreciate your experience if you have actually shipped such a LCD TV via VpostUSA. I am contemplating getting a 52inch Sharp LCD TV via this route as the price is really intriguing (half the price here incl shipping & GST).
varun1624705824 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 The shipping will make a huge dent - vpost usa isn't cheap. I just bought the toshiba hd-a2 (small carton) and shipping was S$ 120+. Worse, if something goes wrong, you wouldn't be covered under local warranty.... - V.
petetherock Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 A - its NTSC B - the shipper must be able to give you insurance C - you need to take care of a very large piece of glass D - transformer issues Well if that does not deter you, then go ahead I thought of doing it when I was in Oz, but chickened out after considering all the factors.

I know becoz it happened to me on the HD-A2 package from Amazon recently. Generally, the cost should come up to about $100+- before the UOB discounts.
technobagus Posted August 1, 2007 Author Posted August 1, 2007 Heh heh, shipping via Vpost is a paltry S$600 (rounded up) and the TV voltage is up to 240volts... I have gotten quite a lotta stuff (Toshiba HD-A2, routers to name a few) via VpostUSA & Amazon with 100% success thus far. All factors considered, still a good option to consider.......... But my question is quite specific, has anyone actually shipped a LCD TV via VpostUS?
zapp1624705742 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 I think you should EMAIL vpost and ask them first if they will do shipping of LCD TVs. I am assuming these have speakers in them and last time i had massive problems shipping speakers using VPOST.

blackburn Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 may you pave the way for us to cheaper electronics ;D
varun1624705824 Posted August 1, 2007 Posted August 1, 2007 Will do so, thanks. For me, it was about $120+ before the UOB discount. - V. Tyer Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 I use vpost for a purchase at amazon. The actual weight is only 0.7kg but volume weight is 2.4kg. so I probably is paying at least $20bucks more to vpost coz of that. Anyway, any more discount code for UOB cardmember since now is Aug already :(
lwm99 Posted August 2, 2007 Posted August 2, 2007 You will not be able to watch any local TV (be it Mediacorp, Starhub or Singtel) if the TV is from US as it is likely to be only NTSC.

I don't think this should be a big issue. My Irish TV can't work here either, but put a Video or DVD Recorder in between and hey presto, signal conversion. Obviously you need to check the video or DVD Recorder can do this :).

technobagus Posted August 20, 2007 Author Posted August 20, 2007 na, chickened out :) no wish to be a guinea pig even if I can buy 2 TVs for the price of one here.....
FirstTime Posted August 24, 2007 Posted August 24, 2007 LCD in HK is cheaper than Spore too. The shop there may help you to ship it back. Brought some furniture that way. Saw Bravia X 40' retailing at abt HKD 24400 with HKD2000 gift vouchers at the departmental stores 2 wks back.

Heh heh, am heading that way in November but from what I have seen, prices there arent low enough for me to consider bringing down a LCD TV ;)
petetherock Posted August 25, 2007 Posted August 25, 2007 Our local dealers are not stupid. The prices here are higher but not so much that people will find the hassle and agony of importing worth it. A flatscreen is not like a Toshiba HD DVD player or a tennis racket
