Denon Electronics today announced the introduction of its flagship Blu-ray player, the DVD-3800BDCI, for release this fall, which will include some of the most advanced features yet seen in a next-gen player.

The DVD-3800BDCI (retail $2000) will include full 1080p output, as well as be the first Blu-ray player to hit the market with the Realta HQV video processor, which allows for advanced video clean-up of even the best high-def signals.

The deck also includes decoding for all current high-resolution audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD Lossless Master Audio and uncompressed PCM, with output up to 7.1 channels.

But perhaps most exciting of all for early adopters, the DVD-3800BDCI will be among the first Blu-ray players on the market to support BD-ROM Version 1.1, aka it will boast dual built-in audio/video decoders to take advantage of picture-in-picture content encoded on Blu-ray discs. That will allow the deck to playback In-Movie Experience-type features that have long been a mainstay on the rival HD DVD format. (Though there are currently no Blu-ray titles available that include picture-in-picture features, the major studios are expected to begin announcing discs with such content as players capable of accessing them begin to hit the market.)

Denon has not announced an exact street date for the DVD-3800BDCI, aside from the fall timeframe. We'll keep you posted as further specs and release information is unveiled.

Stay tuned!

Read from a source that Matrix Trilogy in Blu-ray will *promise* some new features that stands out from the rest of the class. Wonder what kind of *special features* will be incorporated in it. ???

US$2k is still a bit rich for my blood. :P

I think US$1.2-1.4k is abt the max for me.

I am not convinced Realta is needed, when you use 1080p24.

Maybe for SD DVD upconversions but the Reon provides a much better bang for the buck than the Realta.

If Samsung is right on the money, they could launch a 1400Mk II with these specs (DTS HD HR + MA + True HD)

HQV is needed for real 1080i60/i50 video material.

Impressive player!

True, this is going to be a premium class player just like their older stuff.

My primary source of BR movies ARE going to be 1080p24 material.

1080i60/50 would be from TV source BR disc which IMHO is overkill to get a Realta. Reon on the other hand..

Here are some pictures of the player

Some additional quotes.. Apparently no ethernet port even though it is 1.1 compliant.

Today in Jersey City, Denon unveiled its flagship DVD player, the DVD-3800BDCI, coming out this fall. It will be among the first to sport the BD-ROM version 1.1, which means it will have dual audio/video decoders to take advantage of picture-in-picture content, and has an SD card slot, so that you can download web content. It does not have an Ethernet jack, however, so you will have to use a PC to download content to SD. It's also, according to Denon, the world's first high-def disc player to use the Realta HQV video processor for super-badass video cleanup. The processor will clean up Blu-ray discs, if that tells you anything.

So errhemm.. you guys are willing to pay US$2K over this?

Phil

Think max for me is the pricing set by the Samsung 1200.

Reon HQV with DD True HD decoder built in.

Just add profile 1.1 and DTS HD (shd be similar in price for the new chipsets by the time it is launched) and voila! I think it will be a much more compelling price point and performance as the Denon.

Thats because BD-ROM profile 1.1 does not require it.

Profile 1.1  (mandatory for all BD players manufactured after Oct 07)

- min. 256MB persistent storage

- Secondary video decoder

- Secondary audio decoder

Profile 2.0 (aka BD-Live)

- Ethernet connection

- min 1GB persistent storage

- Secondary video decoder

- Secondary audio decoder

Not sure what's your gripe now. Internet connectivity has never been mandatory in the BD specs.

The gripe is that it is like BD is trying to shoot itself in the foot....

again

twice

COME ON!?? Nobody can be that dense not to see how this is possibly affecting adoption rate? See the trepidation that pete is showing, just waiting for 1.1 to be finalized and so he can jump in, so to speak. Now there's a big hurdle with a 2.0 spec making his 1.1 obselete??

Gee.

Ya lor, I would rather they go straight tothe 2.0 version.  :-[ But I guess Denon can't wait to grab a piece of the HD market. So they develop a player with ver 1.1 1st.  ;D

"Denon's new DVD-3800BDCI also utilizes a variety of the world most advance audio technologies, including Advanced AL24 processing, to deliver the ultimate in audio performance. The player offers HD Audio and DDSC-HD, with decoding of Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio and its capable of outputting both 7.1-channel analog signals and PCM audio via HDMI output"

Does this mean that player can decode DTS-HD Master Audio and send the signal via HDMi to your receiver?  ???

Yes from the specs list, it appears to be so.

The other model in Denon's line up however does not decode DTS HD MA just output as bitstream over HDMI.

I believe reading that BOTH have been delayed till Q2 next year.
