petetherock Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I have a 'lobang' for this, **no financial interest**, pm me for shop details but am not privy to release source of hacking so if you are interested in getting, its S$1650 with GST for a local warranty set, then an extra $100 if you want the hack. You will deal directly with the shop for the Sony, I have no part in the proceedings except I might get one if the 1.1 compliant issue isn't a big deal. I have also no details on the nature of the hack and warranty issues, I just found this after talking to a shop I frequent. NOTE: Code Free for SD DVD -- NOT FOR Blu Ray ** I have asked, the hack does not work for PS3 :) ** Specs: http://www.sony-asia.com/corporate/resources/en_AP/docs/PressRoom/2007/ProductSpecificationsforBlu-ray.doc HDMI 1.3, 5.1 analogue Looking for more buyers so I can get a better price for it Sony vs Pioneer http://www.smarthouse.com.au/Reviews/Home_Cinema/K9M9C3P3?page=2 "When we corrected these settings in the display menu, we got a smooth consistent picture that was significantly better quality than from the same movie run from a Sony PS3 with a built in Blu-ray player." "Both players deliver the best DVD sound and content to screen quality that we have ever seen in a content player. The 24 fps makes a significant difference over the early Blu-ray players from the likes of Samsung and over the Sony PS3 with a built in Blu-ray player. By investing in a Blu-ray player at this state you are affording yourself the indulgence of the best playback systems in the world today and these two players are the best."

This sound a bit strange, as ps3 are able to output 24fps as well... Fook Lai
petetherock Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 Well think of it this way FL A NTUC DVD and a Denon 3930 can both do 1080p on HDMI, but the picture isn't the same ;) This sound a bit strange, as ps3 are able to output 24fps as well... Fook Lai
Doggie Howser Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 I didn't realize the Sony standalone was HDMI 1.3.. thot it was just sammy 1200 and PS3
petetherock Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 The BDP S1 isn't but the BDP S1E is But there is no ethernet port A user review in Oz: http://www.dtvforum.info/index.php?showtopic=51525 I didn't realize the Sony standalone was HDMI 1.3.. thot it was just sammy 1200 and PS3
FookLai Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Sure, Pete, the 24hz output is to remove judder in the display, it is just a frequency of output, I do not see any differences between Sony standalone player 24hz output will be better than PS3 output. It is just like a BMW and a Proton, both running at 100km/h, can you tell me which one is faster? Of course if BDP S1E said its de-interlacing hardware or upscaling hardware is better, then I agree, yes it will yield a better result. In this case, maybe BMW suspension(hardware) is better so it will be relatively stable running at 100km/h compare to Proton but obviously the speed is the same. petetherock Posted July 24, 2007 Author Posted July 24, 2007 I don't know much about the BDP S1e so can't say much, but I think the hardware is supposed to be more audio and videphile, whatever that means Anyway, my main concern is the 1.1 bit, otherwise I would have gone ahead alone. Found this purely by chance after reading a review in an Oz forum. scoobydoo Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 ......... It is just like a BMW and a Proton, both running at 100km/h, can you tell me which one is faster? ...... Technically of course both are running at the same speed, but I AM SURE if you are in the BMW, it would seem slower... ;D
