dualsmp Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 Anyone here connected their PC to ab AVR or HTiB (home theatre in a box) for 5+1ch sound? I am trying to figure out what I need to hook up the PC's onboard sound (8 Channel through SPDIF out) to an AVR or HTiB set for surround sound when watching DVDs on the PC. Is it a straight forward connection where I just need to get an optical cable and hook it up to the AVR or are there issues that I must look out for?
louco73 Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 You are correct, from the hardware side, all you need to do is connect your computer's digital out (coax or optical) to one of your AVR's inputs. For software, you need to configure your DVD player software to use the pass through or digital out option so that it doesn't downmix the 5.1 to 2 channel before outputting on the digital out. If you have the disk space you can use a program like DVD Shrink to take your DVDs and put them on your computer's hard disk so that you can play them without having to fiddle with the DVD!
dualsmp Posted July 21, 2007 Author Posted July 21, 2007 Thanks a lot. :) Will keep the software configuration in mind. ;D
