Hi all, would like to hear from u guys on my system upgrade.

Current system

Denon AVC3800 av amp

Pioneer DVD player (Model can't remember)

Nad 216 2ch power amp

Marantz CD63 SE

Mission 753 Freedom frt

Mission 75C Center

Jamo ONE surround

REL Q100E sub

I had this setup for about 8 years, have been out of touch for sometime and recently have some free time to listen and play around with it.

Having purchase a samsung LCD tv recently, i realise that my system no longer support HD. The though of upgrading come to my mind as my currently system no longer support HDMI.

My question is

1. Should i change my whole setup or should i just change my AV amp and DVD player? If so, i have the sony STR1200ES av amp (Don't seem to be available in our market) and Denon 1930 DVD in mind. Any advice on this 2 pieces of equipment?

2. Im also thinking of getting a integrated amp (Roksan Kandy L.III) for music to partner with the CD63 SE... or should i opt for a Kandy L.III amp/ MK III cd combo? Will this amp be compatible with the mission 753?

3. Will all this upgrade be compatible with my current speakers? My pattern of listening is 50% HT and 50% music. I listen to all kinds of music.

Would appreciate for any advices from you guys. Thanks in advance.

Cheers :)

If your DVDP is very old, changing to the mentioned Denon will most likely give noticeable picture quality improvement. Current AVR offers better surround processor than your current one. These two upgrades are the significant ones at the moment. Upgrade bit by bit, though you may end up upgrading everything. We are poisonous in this forum so be careful hanging out here. ;D

It is not practical to have two setups (stereo and multi ch) but sharing the same speakers. Connection is troublesome.

You seem to suffer from Whxx Lo Fi itis - the sickness of buying only what is recommended there bro

I think your speakers are fine, if they still work they are very good ones and will give you sterling service

As synthesis says, get a new DVD or even Blu Ray PS first to hook up directly to the TV.

Your amp is very powerful and the new featured amps may not sound as good even if they have more features

You need to decide how much $$ you have first

If you want to spend 500$ on the amp, and get the same sound, you will be sorely dissappointed.

You may get more yield in the HT section actually

Good luck

Thanks for the valuable feedback... Actually have send the AV amp for repair twice. Problem is the volume module (thats wat they say...) is always giving me problem. Now the problem is back and each time i send for repair, it cost me about$280... i know its a very good AV amp but it just lack the feature. My budget is about $2000 for the AV amp. Any idea how much will the denon DVDP cost?

Marantz SR8001 + Oppo 981 should fit within 2k budget but note you are just getting pseudo HD video via upscaling.

The newly launched Onkyos 805 / 875 might be a good bet too...given their THX Ultra2 certification :p

if u're looking at the 981, do also consider the Tosh HD-A2 since its abt the same price... only drawback, not region free but u still have ur current DVDP for R3s... or the XA2 + PS3 if u can increase the budget. Those 2 & the onkyo should last u a long time.. shud cost abt 3k in all...

Thanks for all ur advices... Had bought a PS3 on impulse when holiday in japan and realise i can't play dvd. Think can only play region 2 dvd though haven't try blu ray yet... more or less have settle on the HT part. As for my hi fi, any recommendation for a amp/cd combo beside the kandys. Should i get another speaker just for hi fi. I think connection is very troublesome if using the same speaker for both HT and hi fi?

Settle one by one first. Who knows you'll be satisfied enough with new receiver and dvdp. CD playback on 1k dvdp cannot be that bad. If you can do a bit of soldering, please look the internal of your Mission. Some Missions have poor crossover component and cabling.
