Saint Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Hi guys.. was going embark to purchase the amoi 37" LCD.. any cons about this TV?
Doggie Howser Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 Great for HD material. HDMI and component both support 1080p. Was good value for money abt 2 yrs back. Not so sure abt pricing now. For similar specs, look at the Grundig, which has better brand cache and selling for 1.8-2k in Harvey Norman. Not so hot scalar so SD sources like SCV and off the air don't look so good. But you can rectify that with an SCV HD set top box. Also VGA max res is 1280x1024 only.
Saint Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 thanks howser.. i thought amoi is more popular than grundig in singapore? grundig doesn't seems to have alot of models around right? Saint Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 anywhere to find the specs for the 37" grundig lcd tv? seems like i couldn't find model on the grundig website
Doggie Howser Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 anywhere to find the specs for the 37" grundig lcd tv? seems like i couldn't find model on the grundig website People associate Amoi with China... not realizing many branded LCDTVs are also made in China :P True the Amoi doesn't have the best in video processing for SD material but for HD signals, it is pretty competent. Grundig is German branded mah. I never found the GrunDig on the website either, but there is a separate thread in xtreme. Pretty sure at least one of the guys here has it. How much is the Amoi now? The Grundig is less than 2k!!! I bought my Amoi for just under 3k.
Saint Posted July 19, 2007 Author Posted July 19, 2007 i think it's like going for 2399 now.. how's the black level for the amoi? i'm not into singapore broadcasting signals.. more for watching hd stuffs

I believe the panels are comparable to the LCD panels of its vintage. ie decent but not gonna be better than CRT or plasma. Abt 1000:1 contrast native. None of that dynamic contrast stuff. Dialing in the settings with AVIA etc is pretty straightforward. Downside of the Amoi for me is only 1 HDMI input. But if you are using an HDMI receiver, you'll probably use the receiver as a switch.
Doggie Howser Posted July 19, 2007 Posted July 19, 2007 is there a dvi port? Nope. Just HDMI but HDMI/DVI adaptor works

W Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 now that BIG closed down, where else can we buy Amoi LCD TV ?
kemp98 Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Try Giant Hypermart. Thought I saw it on papers not long ago.
technobagus Posted August 11, 2007 Posted August 11, 2007 Avoid Amoi, my 42" panel has a discernable line on the right hand side and Amoi refused to replace it even though they admitted that it is probably a panel problem. They said it was not major enuf to my chagrin. I will getting it replaced with a non-Amoi 52inch panel by year end.
BobaFett Posted March 25, 2008 Posted March 25, 2008 About 1 year + ago, this model was selling at about $2999. Saw it yesterday in Giant selling at $999!
