lancez Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Hello. I intend to get the Jamo 306 HCS 10 speakers as I like the design of the speakers and the sub woofer. The jamo catalog states that the front speakers impedance is 4 ohms, power is 80/120 watts and sensitivity is 88 dB. I would like to ask if the Onkyo tx sr605 with amplifier output @ 90 Watt - 8 Ohm be able to drive the jamo 5.1 speakers ? And also if it's a good match. I'm a newbie in HT and this is the 1st system I'll be getting for my new home. Hope you guys (experts) can give me some feedbacks before I go ahead and purchase the above mentioned items. Thanks :)
ALERT1624705860 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 It'll be good if you can let us know your budget. I would suggest you look around and shortlist a few AVR, speakers etc. then test them with your favourite disc before you buy.
lancez Posted July 14, 2007 Author Posted July 14, 2007 Hello Alert, Ideally, I hope to spend ~ 2k. for the HTS. If I want to get the jamo speakers and onkyo recevier, I think I should be paying around $2200+ from the price I was quoted by Hong Liang. So I will cap my budget to $2300 max. I will be getting the jamo speakers as my wife also like the design and it will fit nicely in my living room with all the space contraints. I was wondering if Onkyo tx sr605 can be used to drive the jamo speakers as I've read some nice reviews. Anyone one here owns Jamo HCS a306 ? 1st saw them at Best Denki but I dun like the receiver/player that comes with it. I also feel that Best pricing for the jamo speakers is too expensive.
ALERT1624705860 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 You can try KEC at Adelphi. They can recommend a package that suits your budget. Look around other shops there as well. Take your time to choose. :)
petetherock Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 Welcome bro The search function is your friend The Jamo was recently discussed, http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=44946.0 and so was the 4ohm issue: http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=45794.0 You may want to go through the tips thread as well and review your choices for systems, especially if you expand beyond small speakers and Jamo There is a thread on satellites and systems - Search and ye shall find :) http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=43618.0 http://www.xtremeplace.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=45847.0 Then select a few speakers and find an amp to partner it with and AUdition them. BTW avoid selecting an amp based on the features and specs alone, eg power (which is less than half that in real terms) and the HDMI versions. Hello Alert, Ideally, I hope to spend ~ 2k. for the HTS. Guest jonlee Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Usually if the fronts are sats, not much concern on the power ratings as u will be directing the low frequency to the sub, thus reducing the load of the speakers to your amp. It is the lower frequency that are power hungry. The onkyo itself is about $750, thus u left about $1500 for the speakers. At that budget, u might want to visit KEC to have a listen to the MS Genie. They have the onkyo as well, thus u can match to listen. After all, if u still like the jamo, just get them. Most important u and ur wife must like what u are going to purchase.
