petetherock Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Its the 40th yr of SAF Just met an old army mate last night during a demo! So I thought of asking if anyone here did ITD in the late 80s and onwards, see if anyone remembers their days in Tekong. petetherock - ITD Gryphon Company Platoon 4 - Lt Cyril Lim, Sgt Yan (tekan king), Cpl Sean Tan, Amin, We were tekan from the moment we were on the RPL in civvies til the day we passed out (literally too) We did leopard crawls in the parade square and ran from Camp 3 to the Jetty.
DanDon Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 Mine was also in ITD, 53rd Intake, 13/9/1989 to 2/12/1989, Camp 3, Hawk Company, Platoon 29, 4th Floor. 2LT Tan, Sgt Lee, CPL Lum. I failed IPPT and SOC during training but when came to actual tests, I always passed. ;D Not sure your was the same intake as mine. I remembered Gryphon Company during my intake was tekan quite often. :'(
petetherock Posted July 7, 2007 Author Posted July 7, 2007 Hey same year! Wake up early, tekan until late! You know we never went to the mess. After ITD, OCS was a breath of fresh air, the training was hard, but not the same kind of tekan. Remember Madeline Zhu came for parent visit day, and Winston Choo came to visit his son in Mamba :) Mine was also in ITD, 53rd Intake, 13/9/1989 to 2/12/1989, Camp 3, Hawk Company, Platoon 29, 4th Floor. 2LT Tan, Sgt Lee, CPL Lum. I failed IPPT and SOC during training but when came to actual tests, I always passed. ;D Not sure your was the same intake as mine. DanDon Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Can't remember Madeline Zhu's and Winston Choo's visit. But remember Mamba was for overweight recruits and had a white horse in the company. Always well treated.
htfreak Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Moi was in Camp 1 Foxtrot Company early 89 batch. Also remembered that Gryphon company very the siao on one. Once disembark from RPL, they will force march all the way back to Camp 3.
petetherock Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 I think you were there at the same time, and one of those gondus you saw, was me :) We had no time to pack, just dumped everything into the full pack, then run/march for the RPL, the 3 tonner for us to put our things was always empty.... I had one schoolmate who was so stressed he attempted to swim back to mainland! Only stopped by the MPs.... Another broke his leg. Character building they called it....
DanDon Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Its seems that Gryphon Company was a 'siao on' company. ;D Yeah, i heard some people broke their legs juz to get out of the place. Xtreme man! I had one platoon mate became siao (crazy) or pretended to be siao was posted out within 1 week.
Yeek Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Hey same year! Wake up early, tekan until late! You know we never went to the mess. Remember Madeline Zhu came for parent visit day, and Winston Choo came to visit his son in Mamba :) Wah! Same badge siah! What a coincidence! I was from Mamba company! Always got to wake up later than the rest and thanks to Warren Choo we had the GI haircut instead of the botak cut. I actually had to clean Warren's rifle when he was out in the sick bay and I was on attend B bunker. I had a MP's son and a colonel's son in my platoon. Both are very nice people! Memories man.... Yeek
Guest jonlee Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Gee, so many same batch. I also Gryphon company, dec-88 till march-89. Same batch as warren choo, which makes me same batch as petetherock and yee. petetherock , I'm ur next door bunker. Cannot remember the platoon number, but my PC was Lta Neo and PS was Sgt Martin. Remember the change parade our company had on a late night at the parade square? Run up and down from parade square to bunk dunno how many times. :-X I remember Lta Cyril Lim. After he ROD from ITD, he signed on 3rd guards as a PC. My camp was next to 3rd guards (Kranji Ammo Depot). Sgt Yan was the tall and skinny one, correct? Another platoon had a "fat" SGT Tan, who was supposed to be the worst one among the 4 SGTs. Ur platoon had a "donald duck", correct? ;D
petetherock Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 Wow!!! You know my good friend Tan Teck Jack who can jump >3m then. You are in Platoon 2, the cat B fellas who were fitter Hey seriously we shld meet up for a cuppa, bet we may recognise each other :) Remember doing stand by bed in the parade square? Field camp and bayonet fighting was a farce, all there was was tekaning.... Sgt Augustine Tan was replaced by Yan, a real cruel streak.... My section mate - Gwee ! Gee, so many same batch. I also Gryphon company, dec-88 till march-89. Same batch as warren choo, which makes me same batch as petetherock and yee. petetherock , I'm ur next door bunker. petetherock Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 Hey jeff I just had dinner with my old friend Chris Chow, ITD foxtrot 88-89 and he remembers a Major Jeff Ong in charge of ITD camp 1, maybe its you:) My friend later went onto Sierra OCS. Moi was in Camp 1 Foxtrot Company early 89 batch. Also remembered that Gryphon company very the siao on one. Once disembark from RPL, they will force march all the way back to Camp 3.
Quest88 Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Yeah my schoolmate since a long time back.... okay. i belong to different generation. :) but this dr tan teck jack that i know served at SBAB when i was there.
petetherock Posted July 8, 2007 Author Posted July 8, 2007 Tekaning was a way of life... Muddy oily hands eating red beans (never even looked at red beans since then) Wake up before everyone else Force march everywhere, even the range. Book in earlier Sgt Martin making us leopard crawl Platoon 1 and 2 - cat A and B had to hold target boards for the others during range. Lt Neo was an artillary officer The tekan only stopped when LTA Ng the OC came or the OO Only friendly guy was Cpl Han, not sure which platoon. Best PT - Leonard Ang - my classmate I think there is a Dennis from VJC in your platoon jon, who is also my friend. In fact quite a few were from my school. And there was Cpl Arul, who made us dig a trench and do push ups on top on one another inside the trench. Platoon 4 had a tall Cpl with a moustach who is a maths genius in NUS, he used to hit us on the head with the helmets.
http Posted July 8, 2007 Posted July 8, 2007 Me from Gryphon too. 1989 Mar intake. OC one Indian CPT PC LTA Cyril Lim, who is now a famous MC. PS SGT Yan SC CPL Theo Highlights: - One of the company mate designed the purple T-shirt with a Gryphon. - One of my platoon mate went mad. I don't know how I survived that period but I did.

Guest jonlee Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 U are one batch after us. I remembered our OC then was just about to ROD, thus the indian CPT should be the new OC. Me from Gryphon too.
Guest jonlee Posted July 9, 2007 Posted July 9, 2007 Leonard, the basket ball player from catholic high? I was injured during BMT, out of course subsequently, but still played basketball for Gryphon near the end of our BMT. ;D Dennis...ya, I think I roughly remember his face. Not very tall one, correct? Cpl Arul...heeheehee...remember that ~!@#$ face also. :P Best PT - Leonard Ang - my classmate I think there is a Dennis from VJC in your platoon jon, who is also my friend. In fact quite a few were from my school. And there was Cpl Arul, who made us dig a trench and do push ups on top on one another inside the trench. petetherock Posted July 9, 2007 Author Posted July 9, 2007 It amazes me how many people had injuries in ITD with Gryphon... Leonard, tall ACS though Denis, yeah not too tall, another classmate, Peh Kheng Chuan in your platoon too. Cpl Theo, sulks a lot, but not so fierce. Heard in your batch yeek you guys had a long tekan session in the parade square which the CO spotted... Our change parade was so silly that we wore boots with shorts and no 4 tops or something, I think it was for their amusement....
