simic Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 I'm driving a all maggie (1.5 and MMGW) setup with a puny xr55. The magnepan 1.5 are current hungry 4 ohm monsters The fronts sounds good want xr55 is in bi wire mode (3amps going to each speaker, L, R). However it sounds underpowered when driven hard in 5.1 (1 amp going to L,R, RS, LS) Am thinking of getting a cheap 2nd hand av amp to do the processing and driving of surrounds and feeding the preout to one of the analog inputs of XR55. obviously i need to calibrate the sound outputs and need to freeze the volume control on the XR55. Does it sound workable?
SiriuslyCold Posted July 7, 2007 Posted July 7, 2007 might want to think about getting another more powerful amp altogether - going thru the analog inputs subjects the signal to another Analog to Digital conversion and it isn;t the optimum use of the Panasonic so your signal -player (digital) -> processor(dd/dts->PCM -> analog) -> panny (analog to PCM->PWM) still, it will work, and if you like the way it all sounds in the end who's to say anything ;D
