Hi,

Recently i have been experimenting a bit with burn-in tracks and yesterday i left it running for 4 hours playing a burn-in track. Today as i'm enjoying my music i find that a lot of details became lost and being able to identify the instruments and their depth was much more difficult. At first i was very worried that the burn-in track had screwed up my system. searched all over the internet for answers but to no avail. Finally after listening some more it dawned on me that the bass was a lot deeper and louder. So i have this question in my mind,

after burning in your loudspeakers does the bass become a lot deeper and louder (i'm assuming due to the flexibility of the diaphram or something like that)?

Because of the acoustics of my room this increase in bass ruined the music , this is what i'm guessing. I hope i'm right. Putting the sponges into the bass port of my dynaudio seemed to help =)

Comments are welcome

yea it's brand new. a pair of dynaudio focus 110s. Feel like they're a pair of adolescent teens going through puberty, changing all the time.

at first the lows sounded a bit weak and stiff now that characteristic has seemed to move upwards in the range. i'm not sure if that'll eventually go away though

Bro what is your setup,

Bear in mind the amp needs to be fairly powerful to drive these.

Placement and distance from the adjacent structures is also important.

i've got a NAD C542 and Roksan kandy on this.. yea placement's not so ideal with it being about 16" or 40cm from the rear wall.

Plus my room's a bit small. the port plugs really helps but i still think my speakers are not close to breaking in yet. Every week or so the sound changes dramatically and i am listening 3-4 hours a day. Just last week i really loved the sound now it seems not so appealing..

Not only does your speaker not burn-in, your other equips as well  :D Like: cdp, ic, spk cables etc... :'(

Y not just let the CD on loop & let it run non stop? or fix up a radio to it....

I used a pair of Audience 50 in free space, it  doesn't breath well close to walls, unless you trat your room, eg curtains and absorbers.

The cables don't need a lot of breakin, but tweak your speaker position after it breaks in a bit more.

You can use tape on the floor to mark the various positions to choose the best sound compromise.

Not to mention, your ears also break-in too.......... more like, you ears are starting to get used to the new sound from your new speakers.

Some speakers cannot be port plugged. You will get midbass hump, and with our normal HDB room sizes, that may make things worse. Try to listen carefully before embarking on a permanently plugged position. Besides, some drivers + cabinets are not suited being plugged.

as for the last point i think they should be suitable since the plugs came with the speaker but anyhow yes i will be experimenting a bit with the plugs.

Thank you all for your input! learnt a lot these few months reading and reading till my eyes are going crazy but my ears are still longing for so much more. Playing around with placement and will embark on my room treatment as soon as the Roxul supplier can reply me. Rug and heavy drapes are coming in soon too. Very very anxious to hear the difference a well suited room will sound, hope it'll be like stepping into one of those hi-fi showrooms..

yea that's what i do but i'm not exactly sure how long i can loop it. will 4 to say 6 hours still be ok?

will it cause my tweeter to overheat (sorry this is really just a stab in the dark) if i play the burn-in track slightly louder than usual for hours? actually it's at normal listening volume but the burn-in track is really noisy so it sounds loud.

Dont worry about the repeat loop, it wont damage the tweeter. You can also place both speaker facing each other, with 1 of the speaker cables connected out of phase on the back speaker terminal. Play ur burn-in disc and u also may cover it with blanket if you think its too noisey.  :P :P

Acutally bro they take a very long time to run in

Why not just enjoy the music in the mean time

The drivers are very hardy and will last for years to come, the silk dome tweeters are very well cooled and will be fine, even at deafening volumes and can handle high levels of power well

Enjoy
