petetherock Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Puritis : latin for an incurable itch Ani : latin for anus / backside There is a severe affliction here in this forum, when it infects the victim, causes previously normal folk to develop a grave insatiable itch. This malaise is highly toxic, infectious and potential fatal, at least to the wallet. It can also result in severe bodily wounds when the spouse chances on the bills reflecting the cost of the equipment you bought. (Reference S.C. ‘s article) Can you recall when you got infected? For me it was a night guitar class at Yamaha, Plaza Singapura I had been using a simple setup for music and HT, when I stepped into the showroom, which I have to walk through, when I stopped to admire their setup. It was the new (for that time) Yamaha 2070 with 2 additional side channels. It was playing “LionKing” on an LD, with all the speakers hooked up, plus a subwoofer for each channel. It was the opening 5 minutes, where they sang the African version of ‘The Circle of Life’. The surround experience was excellent, enveloping you in a fabulous display of sight and sound. Some things you admire for a second, others force you to stop, take your breath away and make you weak in the knees. That day’s experience fell into the latter category.
petetherock Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 Since then it has been an exhorable expenditure and with lots of money poured into this hobby, experimenting with new things, some fabulous ones and some duds. A life-long journey perhaps, but a memorable one with many pleasurable moments.

dbchoong Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 My first Dolby AC3 experience was a shop selling Atlantic Technology speakers. Can't remember where and what amp/LD player... :P It was playing a Toy Story LD - probably mid 90s. Since then - AVRs came and went. Speakers came and went. Subwoofers came and went. ;D But since my kids started "serious primary" school - upgraditis sort of reduced to a trickle. :P
DIRTRUN Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Funny, Talking of upgrades, I seem to still have all my spkrs but de avrs all get traded in or sold off ... though I am now on de 2nd set of floorstanders ... all my spkrs are still around in various places ... I guess sources and amps dont have much of a shelf life unless you get a real tua gong super expensive one la by then it ll be too expensive to keep changin anyway... Children and upgrades... uhm I try and keep a separate budget... but I am poor still... :D :D :D Dirtrun
SiriuslyCold Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 i think it's spelt "pruritus" (and my post was just a link to someone else's article ;) ) My favourite latin saying is inter cathedra et pulpitum reae culpae est The problem exists between the table and chair Of course, H2G2 - the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say about latin: Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum sonatur. (H2G2 page) Whatever is said in Latin sounds profound ;D
