techaview Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 Hi i am considering setting up a stereo hifi in my living room. Budget around 2k w/o cabling. Initially i am thinking of just getting a CDP, amp and speakers to complete my stereo to place in my bedroom. After some consideration, i will like to enjoy both movie and audio with the setup in my living room. I have shortlisted the DVD player and speakers. They are Oppo 970H and Usher S520. I am not sure as what amp to get, the 5.1 type or the 7.1 tyoe? I am wondering what other components will be needed oso, eg subwoofer, additional speakers? cheers!
SiriuslyCold Posted June 25, 2007 Posted June 25, 2007 you can hardly find a 5.1 amp nowadays; or it will lack some features that you might need - for exapmle, the Oppo has HDMI so its better that the receiver has HDMI as well. Its OK to use it as a 5.1 amp though, so you don't really need to set up as a 7.1 system not sure of the pricing, if will Usher fit into a 2k budget. Perhaps just the mains and centre, and different surrounds, then you'd still need a subwoofer.

Have went to audition some av amp and come across Denon 1507, Marantz SR3001 and 4001 and oso yamaha rx-v461. Of all these, i like yamaha rx-v461 with the Direct Stereo for high quality 2-channel sound reproduction function which i have asked the staffs to test it. I will say among all the amps, i like the audio more with 461. No time to test the movie effect. Maybe some bros here can shed some light on this amps? http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/av/products/ht/rxv461.html Am now thinking of pairing up with oppo 970H, usher s520 front LR, center s525 initially. Next when budget allow then go for rear LR but maybe with other brands. what do the bros here think of this setup? thanks
