most receivers with THX I've read about will let you apply THX over MPCM from HDMI even if they do not allow PLIIx.

question is, is there any downsampling (96kHz -> 48kHz?) required to apply THX

I think you can get it as Seng Heng....

Tat place would be the last place I go to to buy something. Price can fluctuate within 2 days and depending on whether you have an innocent face so they can up their price.  ;D ;D

Btw, are you by any chance a dealer? See tat you criticise one shop in the other thread and recommend one in t his thread? Just curious la. Sorry if i am wrong.

Price does make a deciding factor to where people will want to patronise a shop. Shops will always try to stay ahead by having a competitive pricing. Most importantly GOOD SERVICE of an establishment is where it makes a difference for people to keep coming back for more.  :)

Ever wonder why people keep going back to a certain shop?  ::)

sometimes people refuse to type the name of a shop - it makes it difficult to find when doing a search, but also makes it difficult to derive any feedback from it, try SXXX HXXX and you mght find a few more hits

since denon 3808 is around the corner i will get it instead if the onkyo 805.

Thanks

Why make such a hasty decision when you have yet to see the Denon in action.  Wouldn't it be better to first demo both receivers and get the one that works out best for you.

Well after reading tons and tons of forum. it seems there is a pop issue and onkyo produce alot of heat. i don't have a 1080p plasma so i don't care abt upscalling. can considering the price for the 3808 which is around 1884 which is about 400 more than 805 i rather take the new denon. their build are solid. i don't need wifi. so i feel 3808 is for me.

Thanks

Well he did mention he does not have a 1080p display. So he does not even need all the video processing. And he's comparing an 805 to the denon. Not the 875.

But freebird, it does not hurt to have a "future-proof" av amp which will benefit your future display. To me, the denon is just too "basic" to justify tat kinda price. And I am a denon fan.  ;D

The popping issue is way overblown out of proportion. I have the 875 since Monday and been playing with it for hours a day. I did not hear any. As for the heat, it is hot but no hotter than a marantz amp. I'm sure you  watch in an air-con environment.

But how about THX-Ultra 2 and all the audio post-processings? Those will be useful.

Thanks For your input.

1. i seems that not every one is experiencing the pop issue. so i would say abt 3-4 :1. i don't want to pay for a produst to take my chances.

2. i don't have a thx speakers, thx cables and thx room settings. i don't want to change my speakers as they still kick ass.

3. i bought a philips plasma aby 3 yrs back. eventhough is 1080i the quality is super vivid and clear when i watch blu-ray via ps3. so much details. it is like every time u see the same scene you will find someting new.  ;) so my plasma is be around for the next 5- 6 years. or even longer.

4. For dvd playback, i want to connect to direct to tv than via denon. my tv have auto stretch function(only avaliable via component) when got black bars, it will stretch and scale to fill up the entire display with out distorting the image quality. also to prevent burn in.

5. I don't really like all the dsp modes in a reciver. i feel that sometimes it sounds fake.

You might think that this points still does not justify not no get a onkyo 805 or 875. yeap. Denon being one of the the better brands i feel safer for built and quality. well also i have not buy it yet there is still room for options.

Thanks alot.

Wow, just found out that the 4308 will be going for $2922 cash at KEC which is almost the same price as the Onkyo 905.  Given that both are quite similar in specs, which do you think will locals prefer in the end?

Since I have a PJ with HQV, I wld go for the 4308 or even 3808.

One key reason is that the above Denons come with ethernet ports that allow firmware upgrades according to the manual. From what I've read, the Onkyo 905 (only Onkyo model has ethernet port) does not support that. I am sure the Onkyo owners understand the pains of transporting their AVRs..  ;D
